For you tech-sters out there...Can you put a PCIEx1 Sound Card into a PCIEx4 slot?
Here is the delemma...
I have a Soundblaster PCIEx1 Card
(pictured here) and I want to install it in my new Windows 7 64bit computer.
Here is the problem: The massive NVidia 660ti takes up two slot spaces. Even though it only uses one PCIEx16 slot it covers one PCIEx1 slot because of its size. This leaves one PCIEx1 slot left but installing the Sound Card there puts it right up against, and blocks one of the fans on the Graphics Card. You can better see the problem by checking out
THIS picture of the MotherBoard. The red area is what the Graphics Card covers. The yellow area is the open PCIEx1 slot. The blue area shows an available PCIEx 4 slot farther away from the Graphics Card to allow for circulation.
Can it be done? Is it possible or should I look for a PCIEx4 or Plain PCI Sound Card?
