Hi all,
New to this site and presently playing Face Noir.
I am enjoying the story and suspense.Good game.
Asking members to recommend games.
A couple of years ago I really enjoyed the third person action, stealth game called The Saboteur.
Not too familiar with these games.
Appreciate recommendations.

I was hoping members could suggest a few of their top rated games likely to appeal to males and a brief description of gameplay style.
Perhaps you could tell me by PM.

Thanks all.

Pak808,

I'm not sure there are adventure games that appeal more to males.
We all have our preferences but they don't seem to split along gender lines.
This year, the game that came out on top was Lost Horizon and as far as I know, everyone who played it liked it.
Here is the annual game list.
The Hall of Fame is right on top.
These are oldish to older games that are fantastic and have won their place over the years.

Some people like games like Myst that are heavy on puzzles and solitary exploration.
Others prefer a good story and a lot of character interaction and it has nothing to do with what gender they are.

Of the games in the Hall of Fame, Grim Fandango isn't that easy to find but it consistently comes out in the top adventure games of all time and was #1 last year on Adventure Gamers 100 best. (I had to give Grim a plug since it's my favorite.)

Maybe you'd like Resonance. The graphics suck (my opinion) but it got very good reviews and it's fairly new (last year?).
It's a gritty type of game as I assume Face Noir is.
Or you might like Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper which is fairly dark and goes heavily into deduction.
Tex Murply is also a detective with a following and these games are completely different from the games involving Sherlock Holmes.
So, anyway, if you haven't played many adventure games, I'd suggest you read some of the reviews on Gameboomers and see if anything appeals to you.
Oh, and if you want a game that's fun from start to finish, try Zork, Grand Inquisitor.

Ah, just happened to think. If you like weird and hard to categorize, get Sanitarium, Hall of Fame, older game, and a B**** of a hard fight at the end for some unknown reason!

Gil.
Full disclosure: not male grin

From your description of games you like and presently playing Face Noir, I would think that you would enjoy Grey Matter and Cognition as there are similarities in game play and style. Also several other games in that style are Memento Mori, Nibiru, and all the secret files series just to name a few.

I'm not sure what you mean by appealing to males unless you're implying that most males would prefer a male protagonist (which I would strongly disagree with) but the games I listed, in my opinion, are pretty mush in line with the preferences you've mentioned.

You laugh because I'm different
I laugh because you're all the same

You migt also enjoy L.A. Noir - it is a game in the same vein as Face Noir. Set in 1948 or 1949 you're playing as a detective in a noir crime story.

There are of course also the Art of Murder games and maybe the Post Mortem games as well? These are games with much darker and deeper story, I find.

Maybe you'll also will enjoy Alpha Protocol; it is a spy game where you decided if you want to sneak or shoot etc. It has developed somewhat of cult following its release by Obsididan Entertainment. (it a darkside game, though).

The newer Sherlock Holmes games, I think you might enjoy as well e.g. The Awakaned (based on H.P. Lovecraft's writings and stories).

Adventure gaming is fun smile

Thanks for suggestions.

I prefer an action adventure game with not too much puzzle solving.

I have already played LA Noire and thought it was great.

Love that style of game, not necessarily Noir, present day would be OK.

Thanks all.
