In my latest driver update for Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 I received an app called "Nvidia GeForce Experience". It automatically checks for updates and under games shows the games I have installed that use Nvidia. In that game section it gives me the option to use optimal settings and I can launch the game from here.

I have no idea what the settings mean and rely on things like this to help me use the best settings so I'm thinking maybe this is a good thing?

Anyone familiar with this and, if so, does this optimal setting thing improve the game play in any way?

I got it with the drivers for my new Nvidia graphics card too. It detected any games on my computer that it could "optimize" and put the settings on the optimum for my computer components. I don't launch my games from the GeForce Experience app. I noticed it did up the settings for my Metro Last Light game. I can't say I noticed any great difference in the gameplay, but it could be if I used some benchmark software the frame rates might have been better.

I'm not sure, but I think there was a bit of a difference - in a good way - in Witcher 2.

It might be a bit of a "gizmo," but it seems to be pretty cool in a way.

I received the same thing two upgrades ago. I've never used it, much less paid it any attention, because the games I play I start from the desktop icons.

That's kind of the feeling I got. I like the fact that it keeps my drivers up to date and the optimal settings do no harm so, what the hey, I might as well try it. I don't really notice it but then again I have a pretty good machine and it can pretty much handle the max settings (at least until it too becomes obsolete)
lol crazy happydance

Homer, I still start my games from the desktop icons too. It seems to set the game to the optimal settings for my hardware and they are adding support for more and more games.

If it's optimizing hardware settings, Drac, it's doing so without my knowing about it. Which is not a bad thing sine I probably wouldn't really know what settings give the games optimum play.

I think you have to open up GeForce Experience and tell it to optimize a game if it's listed.

Shows how little I know about it.
