Jim Walls and the Precinct Team Take a New Approach to Crowdfunding Video Games

You can view the Official Website here.

Quote:
Bass Lake, Calif. – Aug. 7, 2013 – Jim Walls Reloaded, Inc., the new independent game company headed by Police Quest creator Jim Walls and Sierra veteran Robert Lindsley, today announced they’ve cancelled Precinct’s Kickstarter project and replaced it with a new multi-staged crowdfunding campaign. The staged funding campaign uses a new pledge system that allows fans to back Precinct in stages and play early builds of the game before funding the full project. With this new model, the Precinct team is taking a more flexible approach to video game crowdfunding that it hopes will improve accountability and backer-confidence.

To kick off the new campaign, Sierra Chest owner and Sierra On-Line community leader Rudy Marchant will be joining the Precinct team as Community Manager. Rudy will be fully involved in the project through design and production to ensure that fans are connecting with the developers and offering ongoing feedback.

Precinct’s new staged funding campaign is now live at the official website: www.precinctgame.com

“Like other recent high-profile Kickstarters, we quickly saw that Precinct wasn’t gaining the traction it needed,” said Robert Lindsley, President of Jim Walls Reloaded, Inc. and Executive Producer of Precinct. “While fans are interested in backing new ideas, they’re becoming increasingly aware of the risks inherent in crowdfunding. We’re hoping that this new model will give backers more confidence in the projects they’re funding.”

Staged funding allows creators to break up a campaign into multiple funding goals to develop early prototypes and demos by which backers can track the project. With Precinct’s staged funding model, the team hopes to deliver more accountability, communication, efficiency and flexibility than current “all-or-nothing” crowdfunding campaigns:
Accountability: Multiple funding stages allow the team to prove their vision and development skills with early builds.
Communication: An open-ended campaign will ensure better community-building and long-term communication throughout development.
Efficiency: Expensive “rewards” have been separated from the campaign to guarantee that 100 percent of funding goes towards development.
Flexibility: Backers can pledge any amount at any time to receive early builds and a digital copy of the full game upon completion.

About Precinct
Precinct takes the player on a realistic police adventure through the mean streets of Fraser Canyon. Assuming the role of Officer Maxwell Jones, the player will take on the many challenges facing police officers today. Written by famed adventure game designer Jim Walls (Police Quest, Codename: Iceman) and some of today's brightest Hollywood talent, Precinct features a gripping crime story based on true accounts of real police activities. Playing in the first-person perspective, Precinct's real-time 3D environments and gameplay deliver significant realism to the classic police adventure style Jim is famous for creating.

Precinct is planned for released in Q3 2014 as digital download for PC and Mac with distribution across platforms such as Steam and www.precinctgame.com. Additional Kickstarter stretch goals will allow for release on Linux, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
