Hi smile

I thought this was available as a free programme and downloaded and installed it as such - but today I got a message that my "trial" period would be up in 5 days duh

Is it "purchase only" these days then ??

Cheers.

No, they do that for 30 days. You just say you don't want to purchase the Pro version (which runs in real time protection while the free one does not) and it will go back to being the free version. I can't remember where you opt out, but I think it's when the notice pops up.

Hi Mad,

There's a free version and a paid version. smile

The paid version runs in realtime protection.

The free version doesn't offer realtime protection, but carries out a full scan whenever you choose.

Mad,

Are you sure you didn't inadvertantly download the trial version of the paid program? The free version can be downloaded here.

I'm sure that's what happened... and I was wrong, it's a 14 day trial, not a 30 day trial.

Actually, I downloaded this a few days ago to resolve an issue on my wife's PC - I'm pretty sure it asked to activate a 30 day trial, but I think it was for real time protection.

I was using the free version, but decided to buy the Pro version and have not been disappointed since. I have been notified when downloading something potentially damaging, and have had outgoing blocked due to the same reason. It sets in the background and doesn't utter a word until it spot a problem. My kind of lurker.

Ditto, Homer6.
Malwarebytes is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Agree with Homer6 and traveler-well worth buying the real-time version (one off payment of around $25). I have only had it for around 3 months and have lost count the number of times it has blocked content from some websites and issued warnings. Good stuff!!

Hi folks - and thanks for all the responses !! thumbsup

I do only really only want to be able to run a scan "on request" for the time being, so I deleted the programme I already had installed, then ran CCleaner, and then downloaded the free version.

[Well I hope it was the free version. It looks exactly the same as the one I just uninstalled lol]

Cheers.

They ARE the same thing, Mad! To activate the Pro features, you just enter some codes. If you don't activate it, then it's just the scanner for removing things after they are installed on your computer.

Hi Draclvr smile

Well, after uninstalling then re-downloading and re-installing I immediately got the same "5 day warning" that I got before.

I ignored it - so it will be interesting to see what actually happens in 5 days now !!

Cheers.

I've done it several times - it just reverts back to the regular Malwarebytes. I'm sure yours will do the same!

No its not like that it depends upon which version you choose. Almost every internet security program (MalwareBytes, Immunet, Kaspersky) comes with the both free and pro versions. If you want to switch your free version into paid one then you may do it otherwise no need to do it; the pop up comes only to update you.

Hi, jamesedward and welcome to Gameboomers! It's always good to see new members drop down in the Glitches forum!

I just put the free Malwarebytes on a laptop I was cleaning up for a friend. It simply asked me if I wanted a 15 day trial of the Pro version and I said no. When Mad's 5 days is up, the popups will simply go away.
