I have the disc version of JK2 and it seems to be running in slow motion, I can't see anything to adjust so I am presuming it is my Video card which is Nvidia Geforce 6200. I think this is at the low end for playing games, any suggestions? If it is my video card can you suggest an upgrade? think thanks

Gremlin had the same problem, which he mentioned in his review.

But his card is a Radeon HD4670 512MB -- a lot faster than yours, and the minimum Nvidia spec for the game is Geforce 8600GT, also a lot faster than yours. Also, I couldn't find any patch or update for the English version. I assume you'd have to contact either the company that developed the game or the company that published your disc version to get them to send you the patch.

If you want to replace your video card, you'll probably have to replace your power supply too, and possibly add a case fan. Faster cards require more power and create more heat. Without knowing more about your model of computer, it would be guesswork what would work or not. But if your computer came with a Geforce 6200, it might be time to start thinking about a new computer. The Geforce 6 series came out in 2004 and was replaced by the 7 series in 2005. So I imagine your computer is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I don't know where I got 6200 from because I went to update my driver and checked again and I have 210 is this also very old?? I had this computer made to order so I can get it updated if I know what to ask for, its only about 2 years old so it would help if I knew which graphics card to up date to. urock

Sorry one further question, when I try to update my drivers NVidia tell me I need to install Java but there are so many different types could you recommend which Java I need?

The 210 is two years newer than the 6200, but it's still very low end.
Here's a comparison of the Geforce 8600GT (the minimum spec listed for the game at AdventureShop) and the 210
http://www.hwcompare.com/895/geforce-8600-gt-512mb-ddr2-vs-geforce-gt-210/
You can see from that that the 8600GT is a more capable card in nearly every area.

You'd want the latest Java. You may have to uninstall any older versions on your computer to get the latest Java to install. You can get Java from the Java website
http://www.java.com/en/

or the Oracle website (Oracle owns Java)
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

The 8600GT video cards were great for their day and that site certainly shows how much better that older card is than the 210. Another useful bookmark for me!

If you want to upgrade your video card, you should consider the new video cards. What you get would depend on what your power supply is, as Jenny mentioned, and what your budget is.

OK Thanks for Java info I have now installed it so I can update my card, but I have spoken to the Computer shop regarding a new card and they are talking a Radion 7750?? at £95.00 or Radion GTX650 at £145.00 plus approx £60.00 for updating power supply etc. What do you think I realise that I am in the UK so you won't be familiar with UK prices, I am also near London so prices are high here anyway, but I would be grateful for your thoughts before I go ahead and blow a lot of money just to play games!! oops

What? You don't want to spend massive amounts of money just to game? grin

Why don't you use the link Jenny provided to compare the two cards and see what you think?

Thanks Draclvr, I have looked at Jenny's link, but I am sure I have read better reports of Radion than NVdia and as the shop is pushing those I wanted to be sure I wasn't just being pursuaded by smooth talking. The GTX sounds good but do I really need something that expensive is it more for the fast moving kill 'em type game as opposed the good old point and click game, although I appreciate graphics are important. I guess I am a typical Libran and can see both points of view but can never decide which is best. thumbsup

I'm sure Jenny can give you better advice here than I can, but if it were me, I'd get the best I could afford at the time. Even adventure games are getting more and more demanding as far as a video card goes and it would avoid having to upgrade the video card again.

But the lower end Raedon card might serve you well for some time too.

Thanks for all your advice I guess I will go for the best to avoid another upgrade in the near future. I did e mail Nordic games and I have to say I am very impressed!! I got a reply today (less than 24 hours) with lots of info which I will try however like you they say that my graphics card is only minimum for the game and there is no patch available - still Good for Nordic Games woot

Thanks everyone dance

The GTX650 is Geforce, not Radeon.

Here's the comparison
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=676&card2=681

Both cards are good, and either will play adventure games for the foreseeable future. The GTX650 is clocked higher, requires more power, runs hotter, and is a little faster. You will need the power supply. I don't know anything about UK pricing, but Radeon cards are generally a better deal for price per performance.

The biggest difference in the cards is probably going to be driver compatibility as opposed to performance, because both cards are more than adequate for current adventure games. Both cards "should" be supported, but occasionally there will be a game developer with a preference for one brand or the other (ATI Radeon vs Nvidia Geforce).

I installed this on my laptop (7600 GT) to take a peak, and it ran like a dog even at the lowest settings. You'll definitely need a better graphics card to play this one.

On my desktop it plays flawlessly. It's running a GTX 460 1GB.

You will have no issues with that one, it's a very good card. thumbsup
