My neighbor has a white golden retriever. He has some kind of bites from the top of his head, running down to his tail, and on his shoulders. Barb took him to the vet and no one can figure out just what it is. He is on antibiotics and his vet has taken a culture to see if it is the right kind of antibiotic he is on.

Has anyone heard of something like this. He has a thick coat of fur so whatever it is, managed to get through it.

I have not seen the bites so don't know what they look like.

Bets, that is odd. I know that if dogs get bit and it is itchy, they can chew on it and then cause dermatitis which can look like a series of small bumps and needs antibiotics, but I don't think he could have chewed the top of his head. Dogs can also have allergic reactions just like we can, so that could be the problem. There is a blood test to check for allergies, though it is expensive.

Let us know if she learns anything more.

I'm curious about this too - I've never heard of such a thing.

I wonder if it could be stings. But why all the way from the head to the tail? Sure hope they find out something. He is a sweet dog.

Hi, Bets

Sookie a couple of weeks ago had these red marks that looked like boils under her belly...They were spreading to her back...I put animax on it with no luck....Took her to the vet..She had some kind of bacteria infection of the skin...He put her on an antibiotic called Baytril which cleared it all up...

Sookie also has allergies....I don't think its stings....Some bee stings will cause serious side effects in dogs especially that many.

Hope they find out the cause...

That is strange. I hope they figure out what's causing it. It almost sounds like he could have gotten into something like poison ivy.
