I've noticed some of the new games use the name you give for your profile in the game. The only problem is I'm male and it looks weird to see a female character using my name.

I like it when the developers put your player name into the game, but I hadn't really given any thought to what you mention. I suppose you could call yourself "player," but I realize that lacks some imagination.
