I've also worked out why my game save was gone -- there wasn't one. After I started my new game and began wandering around, I kept asking myself why none of it was even remotely familiar, and then I realized that I had been playing Justine, previously, and not the main game.

So far, I've only actually seen three monsters. I hear them all the time, but I tend to just keep moving around. I guess I've been lucky. Anyway, there's one prowling around now. I haven't been able to work out how long to stay hidden, but I guess it will become clear.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Well, that would explain it! The sound is key to knowing when they leave.

Naaaassssty things in the water... You will have certain "items" to distract the nasty things in the water in the last room. That is, assuming you survive long enough!

I just ran through the first bit, grabbed the laudanum, chucked one item for the wheel, and then kept on running and never looked back, sort of like the hotel scene in Call of Cthulhu. That seemed good enough.

I believe I did a lot of that running and never looking back!

Next time I'll try closing the doors, too, because that whatever-it-was took a snap at me and cost me some health.
