You will be able to purchase Blackenrock here shortly. View the Screenshots here. There is a making of here. About:
Keeper's Cottage hides on the westerly edge of Blackenrock Island. It's your first 'port of call' when exploring the islands of Ulcombe Bay. It is a ragged, rocky, wave beaten place, which few care to visit. Some say it's haunted, others say it's cursed. Only the lonely, ignorant sheep dwell there now, many of which fall from the cliffs, into the sea, where they slowly drown in the briny waters.
"That sounds like the perfect place for a haunting!" says Nigel Danvers.
A hundred years ago, on the night of Samhain, the Cottage was the scene of a terrible tragedy; a respected Victorian family were found dead. Mostly. I say mostly, as two of the inhabitants of Keeper's Cottage disappeared, without trace!
Father was found hanging from the rafters. Mother was discovered in the bath, an apparent suicide, death by laudanum overdose. One of the twins, Edward, was found smothered in his bed. But, no-one knows what happened to Peter, he vanished, never to be seen again. So too did the resident maid, Anne Whittle, who was rumoured to be a witch!
The mystery surrounding Keeper's Cottage was thought to be 'unsolvable', but not anymore. As Halloween approaches, Nigel realises that he and Lucy Reubans (his ghost-hunting partner) may have the perfect opportunity to crack the case, and learn what dark power dwells within the walls of the abandoned coastal house.
Sales:
Download the spooky Halloween adventure game directly from the makers, using our secure download service. Or, buy the game from one of our publishing partners. All sales contribute to the funding of The Last Crown - Haunting of Hallowed Isle.
System Requirements: OS: Windows® Windows 8 - Windows 7 - Vista - XP (SP2/SP3) CPU: Pentium® IV (or equivalent, higher recommended.) RAM: 512 MB RAM. (1 GB RAM recommended.) GRAPHICS CARD & MONITOR:128 MB DirectX® 9.0C Compatible 3D accelerated video card, supporting 32bit (true color) colour depth at 1280x960. SOUND: 16-bit DirectX® 9.0C Sound Card. ADDITIONAL: Mouse, Speakers, DVD-Rom Drive. Update on Last Crown: Halloween - Good News and Bad News / Bad News and Good News.
With Halloween rapidly approaching, it has become obvious to both myself and Iceberg Interactive that we need more time to successfully promote The Last Crown, something which cannot be rushed. I'm also still hoping to record a couple of characters this autumn, who have so far eluded me. For example, Saxton Museum would not be the same without Mr.Oogle! Would it.
So, instead, I am more than excited to reveal a dedicated and new 'Crown' story specifically for Halloween 2013.
We enter the story on Halloween, inside The Bear Inn on Saxton Harbour. Night has fallen, the pumpkin jack-o-lanterns have been lit, Morgan has turned off the music and lit a roaring fire. Nigel is about to tell a creepy ghost story to those huddled in the bar. Those present, including ourselves, wait patiently as he begins the story.
Happy Gaming! Ana

Wow, Ana (aka: The Bearer Of Very Good Tidings)... A stand-alone game! That's even better. I thought it would just be like an opening chapter of the full game, with a few scenes and limited gameplay... to whet our appetites. Can't wait to purchase both when they're ready!

Hello Boomers,
Thanks for your interest. The Halloween Haunting is a stand-alone game, which will be available very close to Halloween itself. I'm very excited to finally let Nigel out of his room, to have a new adventure.
It's also very nice to be back on Gameboomers, after a period of burying my head in the sand production and contemplation.
I've been coming to this forum for quite a while (I think it's about 14 years!!), so it feels really cool to be back. I see there's quite a few of the old regulars still here! Marvellous.

Hi, and thanks for the info. I haven't been on in a long time. I'll be getting this, but what is the anticipated date of the Last Crown? Will be be available on disk? I'm switching to an iMac soon so won't be able to download to my XP, but I can still use discs with it.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be download-only, Jean--but I think you could probably download the game on your iMac and then transfer it to your windows computer using a flash drive or similar portable media, as long as you only retain one copy of the game.

yeah update is the game is pushed back again instead were going to be getting a haunted halloween DRM game thats a bridging story from lost crown to last crown to help fund finishing last crown and first crown. they feel they dont have enough publicity for the game to be released so we wont have the game halloween like some of us thought. http://jonathanboakes.blogspot.com/2013/10/halloween-good-news-and-bad-news-bad.html

Hi mom, I merged the new thread you made with the existing one for this game. Ana already answered your earlier question -- there's no official word yet on release. We'll update this thread as soon as there is!

Darleen, I thought it was a demo but the setup doesn't install anything.

Hi. I got an ophthalmic migraine shortly after downloading the game so I still haven't checked it out. I do see that I have an icon "A Halloween Haunting" on my desktop. I'll give it a try in a bit. Terri

Its not a demo or to me a trailer...
Its like 4 minutes of the game with Nigel sitting at the ouija board asking questions..Which you have to click on different questions to ask the board..

Thanks Ana. It was a cute diversion. We certainly don't want to rush Jonathan. No doubt it's going to be great fun when he does release the game. I'm certainly willing to wait a little longer. Terri

Well I don't feel scammed or tricked.. I feel more work had to be done to make the game work well on all computers... I will wait cause I still have all my Halloween lights up, and I will light them when the game is released. Love You.. Jonathan

There are so many reasons why a game release might have to be delayed and I hardly think "tricks or scams" by Jonathan Boakes is one of them !! And I, too, am one of those happy to wait for any game of his for it will surely be good

I have been in contact with Jonathon and to use scammed or tricked on something that he is working on or promised is offending to me. He said it was called Halloween Haunting and was coming soon. You are not out money (there were no preorders) and he is working on making it great, because that is what he does. No where did it state a firm release date and even it did, things happen.
So many are requesting updates on the games they are waiting for, yet when we do get some word and post it, it gets negative comments from naysayers. It isn't a wonder that developers and publishers are silent or don't want us to post the info they give us on progress. Have you never done a home improvement project, or knitting or anything else in your life that you thought would be done in a certain amount of time and unforeseen things came up and it took longer? No different for these people.

Unless a game is already finished, there is no way to predict when it will be released. There's these things called bugs that crop up at inopportune times, and which have to be dealt with.
You can release a buggy game, and have gamers unable to play it, or you can delay the release and try to get rid of the bugs. Bugs can take the form of game crashes, invisible graphics, dead ends, games not starting at all, and pretty much anything you can imagine and then some.
I'm sure no one is more disappointed than Jonathan that he wasn't able to get The Halloween Haunting finished and ready to distribute by Halloween.
Anyone who thinks a delay in a game's release is a "scam" is welcome to create their own games and learn about the realities of coding games first hand. Each game is different, and will require unique solutions for eliminating bugs. Fixing one bug may cause a new one. You can't predict how long it will take to get rid of them. If the game isn't finished, the release date can only be a "best guess."
Like everyone else, I hope The Halloween Haunting is released soon. But don't ever trust release dates unless the game is finished and debugged and just waiting around for the release date. Play something else in the meantime instead of slamming the developer, who is doing his best and is probably working 24 hours a day trying to get his game ready.

Wow, I'm in shock by the attitudes. It's only a game, it will be released when it's completed, take a chill pill. I'm sure you can find something else to occupy your time, so lay down the torches and the pitchforks. I for one am willing to wait because I know when it is released it's going to be a great game!! Id rather wait for the game to be ready, bug free and late than rushed out too soon like Rome total war 2 (which is one of the most troublesome, bugged and patched game ive ever played!)
Lost crown / halloween haunting will be out soon just be patient!

For the years I've been here, my experience is that we're all --pretty much-- a group of patient & kindly people... almost childlike in our anticipation of a game's release. Some of us (myself included) might get a little 'pouty' when we don't get what we want when we expect it, but that's been the extent of it. And anything said is said in jest. Never, ever would I ascribe negative terms to the people who work so hard to bring us the games that transport us into fantastical, other-worldly places... away from our (maybe) hum-drum lives. Anticipation is half the fun. I hope Jonathan & team take the time they need and bring us the best games possible. Although I always say, "I can't wait".... I certainly can. And will!

"I could never believe to this kind of scam we see now."
That is the last sentence of your first post, TLJ, and probably helped fire up the reactions your post has met with.
I doubt Jonathan Boakes ever "scammed" anyone. Or does "scam" have a different meaning in Finland ??

Dear Mad,
"Plot, story, ploy, story line, ruse, chicane, caper, canery, dodge, gimmick, ...". Google translate gives many "synonyms" for scam.
Like in finnish language there are several words that can be used. Some better, some worse, depending on situation.
But feel free to throw the first stone if you think you manage any better "translating" your thoughts to my language.

Darleen, Jonathan is fine and working on getting the games done. No worries there. TJL, please do not use your culture to explain why you used your words as you did. There is a difference of being honest and direct in your reaction and that has nothing to do with using flammatory words to describe Jonathan's intent.

Gosh folks, I hate when we get in a he said, you said, they said frame of mind.
Even if you don't agree with a post, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please let's just let this go, and get back to doing what we do best, playing and enjoying games.
Jonathan whenever you are ready with any of your games my wallet is there.

I agree with you Darleen, I've wondered too why there has been no post from Jonathan lately. I hope all is well with him. As for these negative posts, why don't we put all this malarkey to rest. If there's a need to be negative or unhappy about something, just turn on the News, local and world. Terri

TLJ said over and over that he was a huge fan of Boakes' games. He only expressed his disappointment in Jonathon Boakes' failure to stand by his promise. On top of that, he was made to look foolish in front of his friends by recommending Halloween Haunting. It stands to reason he would be the slightest bit hot. English 'is' his second language...if you're a 'her', TLJ, oops!...and now it has been explained to him that 'scam' is a highly derogatory word, I doubt he'll use it again unless it is really, really warranted. Go a little easier on him, eh?

MaG~ Thanks for the title update... gotta make the change on my 'to-buy' list. I did like the original title. There's just something about the words "haunt*" & halloween" that elicit a chilling, eerie atmosphere no matter what time of year. But like a book and it's cover, the title doesn't matter... it's the stuff that's inside that counts!

I have to go with the flow and say that while I am disappointed, I'm not disappointed in Jonathan. I think that his games will get here just as soon as they can and I will enjoy the hell out of them when they get here. I have to appreciate that he needs to take his time, heck, I've been working on my own game for five years and it's not near done!

Thanks "traveler" (Gil). No worries, my initials got in wrong order in this thread much earlier. From my part I apologise interpreting your gender wrong from "Gil" which is obviously shortening from Gil... well, something. But whatever the gender or age, let's all keep on enjoying these adventures and sharing our experiences and opinions together!

Gil~ What.... no more Manny? I miss seeing him. Somewhat off topic, but when it comes to foreign languages & communicating, it's a daunting task. I tried writing a letter of introduction to (and asking some family questions of) a distant cousin in another country. She (having studied in USA) was well-versed in both written and spoken English. I tried my 'darndest' to express myself, but there were many translation problems, making my attempt barely comprehensible... which she kindly pointed out. Fortunately, it was genealogy-related, so she 'got my drift' and was able to respond. Words we say to one another in common, everyday speech (like idioms) don't always match definitions in the dictionary. If I were trying to learn English and heard someone say, "Manny kicked the bucket", I'd be flummoxed. Maybe it's in the dictionary now, but not in my 1983 Webster's 9th.

Ha! Too true, Carrie. I remember trying to help a lost tourist in my highschool French. That was a trip. (idiom) I would have done better in my highschool Latin if any ancient Romans had been wandering around. I think games and movies in English have familiarized a lot of people with our idioms. At any rate, TJL's English is somewhat better than my Finnish. (cough) As for Manny, look below. He's always with me somewhere, except for a brief time when Smiruk was rejoicing in getting back Slasher. I hope you all enjoy Blackenrock when it comes out. Boakes' games are not my cup of tea (good grief, another idiom!) but I can certainly relate to waiting impatiently for games because you really like them. Gil.

Hi all, first post here. Did a bit of searching to see what was happening to The Last Crown because I remembered it was talked about after I finished the original Lost Crown game that I enjoyed very much and found this forum that explains things and I'm now up to speed on the matters Looking forward to the soon released Blackenrock that I imagine wont be a big game at $5 ? but I'm not complaining, will be fun to play something like this again while waiting for The Last Crown. Looks like it will be out very soon, perhaps this weekend? Should be fun

There was an issue with some people unable to play the demo because of screen resolution incompatibilities and they were trying to adjust it so more can play it. That could be one reason fore the delay.
When it's ready, it will be released, no one is out any money in the meantime.

Ana, what demo? It was an interactive trailer which was 3 minutes.... I understand we didn't pay anything, but he posted here to promote the game, and then nothing.. I am upset cause I would of thought we as GB's deserved an explanation from him ... I am not upset at all, just confused as to why you come to this site promote an Halloween Game, and then we hear nothing....Its not fair to you or GB's...

When it's ready, it will be released, no one is out any money in the meantime. I'm one of those =/ I'm using an older GFX card due my previous GFX has burned, so I tried to run that 'Halloween Haunting' preview but I had incompatibility with my GFX. The thing is, my GFX does support everything from their system requirements on their site and even like that I couldn't try it. I sent a couple e-mails to DarklingRoom since then, but they didn't replied me so far =/ I really hope they fix that, otherwise their system requirements is a lie.

There are so many reasons that you may not be able to run a game. This does not make their system requirements a lie.
If you require assistance when the game comes out please post in the glitches forum. This is for game discussion only.

This is to support to those of us who are a bit irked with these delays in games afer they are announced for a particular date. May I respectfully submit that while I am aware that there are lots of reasons that a game can't be completed, the missed deadlines are virtually never ours. They are created and publicized by the game designers themselves. I don't hear anyone yelling for a boycott or cancellation, but surely we can be irritated when when someone or some company doesn't do what they same they are going to do.
If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Dang, saw new posts on this thread and hoped it was game release news, agreed with Haze ... an announcement on the delay would be nice and boost consumer confidence, hope its not an illness? I reckon most of us are understanding if kept updated, its being kept in the dark ... not necessarily in this case that gets people frustrated. I fully appreciate it will be ready when its ready but we've seen one date slip for near a month now and the tone on this thread really was it will be any day now when I joined the forum and there must have been some sort of confidence in that date to announce it in the first place ... an official comment on what's happening would be nice. Not the end of the world and I'll find something else to replay, T2X again? because I'm out of new stuff to play but in the meanwhile ... be good to know what's going on though, just sayin is all

There are so many reasons that you may not be able to run a game. This does not make their system requirements a lie.
If you require assistance when the game comes out please post in the glitches forum. This is for game discussion only.
Ana I'm not looking for technical support, that wasn't the reason for my previous post. I really believe that's a problem only DarklingRoom staff could provide a solution(I really doubt there's another problem than GFX incompatibility in this one). If my GFX supports everything they requires, but their game won't support my GFX, it's a lie, but, just to be fair, let's say there's a probability for the problem to be something else, still there's also a probability of their reqs to be a lie(unless they change the reqs on their site or fix the problem). I agree with "The Haze", the lack of information can be really frustrating, that also comes with the lack of response via e-mails I sent to their support. I love DarklingRoom games and to feel like a bit abandoned by the staff is one more reason for me to be more sad about that glitch. I just wanted to express myself one time the staff is leaving me in the dark(some people looks like feeling the same). But maybe they are just busy. Well, I won't post more stuff, because people are really looking forward into important announcements about the game, so I don't want to disappoint them, unless I think I should reply a comment. Regards.

ARK to Gameboomers.... I agree... There should be some kind of post from Jonathan as to what happen...Its only fair to explain why the delay, and to reassure us he is working on fixing things...I also have e:mailed him with no respond.... I think some of us are getting anxious because we are in the Dark..... Hence the Darkling room... Oh Well...

Hi Bubba, Blackenrock *is* the Halloween game -- it was renamed. There's no demo as such, just a short interactive trailer (which I can't find a download link for, so perhaps it's been removed?). The full game is still being worked on, no definite release date yet.

The interactive trailer was removed. Jonathan is working on polishing the final game which grew in size and then he will release it.

I'm a bit confused now ... so is there not going to be an "any day" (was Halloween game) now $5 Blackenrock release to tide us over until the final game or is the final game now a full game that will be called Blackenrock? I seem to have missed the Interactive trailer thing, was that a web based game or was that the $5 game? Sorry for questions but I really am confused about this, wish there was an official announcement, no disrespect to you Ana, thanks for the info you can provide

Actually everything has pretty much been covered throughout the thread. Unless I have a written in stone release date I will not be making a formal announcement because if it doesn't pan out people will be complaining. There will be a Blackenrock (formally known as Halloween Haunting) release prior to the Last Crown release and it will cost 5 dollars. It was to be a short little fun game, but it ended up being much bigger than originally planned hence the delay. There was an demo/interactive trailer but it was taken down. Hope that helps. Ana

Hi there Old Lady, are you Nanny Noah and are those rumours of you and Bob Tawney getting back together again true? also I hope you are still giving your dog "George" nice long walks on the beach Seriously, good news ... I'm pretty starved of new games to play here just now and this adventure sounds like it will be fun to play over the Christmas holidays.

Why Darleen? So he can say he is still working on it and have people complain it's not done yet? He is working on it and he will release it when he is happy with the way it is.

Personally, I would much rather Jonathon spend his time on the game than posting here. The game will be ready for release when Jonathon deems it ready. I appreciate that he takes whatever time is needed to get it right. For me anyway, it's not like I don't have a pile of games to play looking at me from my shelves while I wait!

This the Last time I will post on this thread, cause, Ana is right its getting OLDDDD.... Drac ...While I respect what you're saying ..I do not agree....Jonathan posted here to Promote his game months ago....Then nothing ..Only to be left in the dark as to what's going on....I am sure he is not working on it 24 hours a day...He has a life also... It takes 5 minutes to post here on what's going on....Out of respect to Gameboomers...I see no reason why we don't deserve a post on ONE single update.. My Opinion

You aren't in the dark, we have updated to say he is still working on it, he did not come here to promote his game, he came here to say hi. I promoted his game. If I were reading this and I were him, I would be disappointed and annoyed and I would not be posting. THere is no win here for him to post. If it's not ready, it's not ready.

Hi Ladies. I have to agree with Winfrey and Drac. Plenty to do, the game will be ready when it's ready. It's gonna be a good one! Ms. Anna. I definitely agree with the annoyance issue for Jonathan, and yes, you have kept us updated. I thought we had put this to rest weeks ago. Ok, moving right along! Terri

I want a Happy Jonathan. Having watched someone type in code for non-fun stuff (for use by companies... not personal computing), I cannot imagine the difficulty of doing that... AND of creating a fantastic environment to explore (a work of fine art, IMO)... all the while knowing there are anxious gamers waiting. You've got to be pretty exceptional & special to handle that. No reason to grouse. I'm okay waiting.

Well not to be outdone showing my patience here, I'm prepared to wait until the sands of time have ran out, until the Universe and everything in it has ended, be it part of the big crunch or the Universe keeps expanding and rips itself apart as the battle between dark matter and dark energy pans out and all the stars die out for this game ... beat that folks, and dont worry this is not expected to happen for billions of years and those are just two theory's on how the Universe might end! I'm joking of course, what is ... is, we dont have a choice but to wait but I'm sure we will all enjoy the game once its finished, sure would be a good one for the Christmas holidays though Peace.

Just wondered a couple of things, firstly has this game actually been released yet? and secondly, the screen shots look just about the same as The Lost Crown, in fact to me (although it's ages since I played it) it looks just like The Lost Crown. Thanks, Jo.

For the past several months I have begun my day with coffee, Cheerios, and a visit to one of my favorite game site to check the status of Blackenrock. Today the site has a change. Nope, it is not yet for sale. But the statement that it will be available for $5.00 and the word "Soon" are both gone. Does anyone know what these changes mean?

Uh oh. I just visited the Shadow Tor site for The Last Crown, Blacken Rock and Bracken Tor. It seems to me that a "sticker" that said something like coming soon, download only $5 is no longer there. It still says "coming soon" above the games. does this mean there has been another set back on the release of any/all of these games? troi
EDIT: sorry, didn't see the previous post. I'll be patient.

Hello! Long-time lurker on this thread! I've been keeping an eye on Jonathan Boakes' twitter for updates on the game but I wonder if anyone knows whether the $5 price is now changing? I really hope not - as I never like it when people promise a certain price then change it - but I'm guessing the fact that it's a fully-fledged game now is going to mean that? Especially as the price and "soon" on the website's gone. Anyone got any insight? ------------ Actually that makes me sound a right skinflint!
