Hello: I digitally downloaded the game ASA - a
space adventure. it is a great game, in the
Myst genre, perhaps even better. I haven't felt
about a game like this since the Myst and URU
series. I have a problem, if anyone can help?
My computer and memory are vastly more than
enough to handle the game requirements. I cannot play the game now for more than two minutes when I get a game freeze. A window appears while playing the game that states
"an error has occurred. The game may not be
working properly."
Error description: Error executing script. The
Script Engine returned following message:
Automation error: the object invoked has
disconnected from its clients.........
I have no clue what this means, or even how to
correct it???? I bought the game thru DESURA...
and they can't even respond to my inquiries...
very disappointing....does anyone have any
ideas on how to get the game working??????
thx much, Armand7

Have you checked the troubleshooting file mentioned here
http://www.desura.com/games/asa-a-space-adventure/news/asa-errors-issues-help

Quote:
2/ If you have an error with the Demo OR the Full release, read the text file "Questions and Answers" on the various issues you can meet.

This text file is called "Troubleshootings" and is distributed with the Full release, or on the ASA homepage, here : Aspaceadventure.fr

They also say to download and install the patch for the runtime error

Quote:
3/ After buying ASA. Please be sure that you installed the Patch 1.2 available in the Downloads Section of ASA on Desura :
Desura.com

- Download the full game ASA Standalone from Desura and copy it to the folder of your choice (no install is required with the Standalone version)
- Download the Patch 1.2 and install it anywhere you want ! This is a DLL update for the system on newest Windows version, that don't use anymore some of the old system files required by ASA.
- Play the game.

Jenny100: I downloaded the standalone game (well,
I assume I did??? all I know is it cost $11.) And
when I start the game and go to the Help section
the developer S. Mesnard states that I have
downloaded the standalone game. I did download
the patch....i'm assuming it was the 1.2....?? I
will go to the troubleshooting link you provided
and try some of those suggestions.... If I decide
to uninstall the game and patch, and start over,
will I have to repay the $11????? thx, armand7

You shouldn't have to repay the money you already paid for the game. But I don't use Desura, so I don't know how it works. Are you able to log in there and see the games you've bought?

Downloading the patch isn't necessarily the same as installing it. Usually you have to install patches after downloading, though I don't know how the Desura patch works.

This error
Quote:
Automation error: the object invoked has
disconnected from its clients.........

sounds like it could be a DRM-related error.

When you installed the game, did you download the installer and then install it, or did you click a link that automatically did everything for you? If you've got the installer on your hard drive, you should be able to reinstall the game. But if the installer wasn't saved and was deleted after installation, there may be a problem if you're not able to re-download from Desura.

Armand

Did you see this page with Updates particularly the last one? Don't know if it will help with your problem. ASA Updates There is also a link to download a Troubleshooting Guide. If all else fails you can contact Simon (the developer) himself as he is always willing to help. You can find his contact information at the bottom of his web page HERE.

You are right, it is a fantastic, Myst Style game and a great job for his first game.

Just that "disconnected from its clients..." sounds like it was trying to be connected with some online server somewhere -- and why would it do that in a single-player game if it's not DRM?

Hi Jenny,
I bought the full version of ASA from Desura. It comes in the form of a WIN.rar folder file. I strongly suggest that you extract all of the files in that folder to a folder (which you might want to name "ASA"). You don't actually "install" the game, but there is a "LAUNCH" icon in your new folder which will start the game. Before you DO launch the game, make sure that you download and install the "Patch 1.2". It is NOT the patch that is in your game folder. You can download the correct patch from DESURA.com from their "Downloads" tab.
I started playing the game and so far it's running very well. BTW, on the game's main menu, you can
click on "WALKTHROUGH" and get the complete WT in WORD form and print it out from there.
Happy Gaming!
Sandy

I'm glad to hear you're getting help from the developer.
No one knows the game better than the developer.
