Well gang, the first string is so long I thought I'd do a follow up.

Sadly, we just found out that the old guy, who is the center of all the drama, died peacefully in his sleep on the 4th of November. Nobody told anyone until a friend of a friend of the caretaker called him and said they saw the obit in the paper. It was ONE line. Birthdate, death date, name of mortuary. Period. How sad. We just found out yesterday, 10 days after the fact.

Then tonight, just a few ago, the caretaker guy called me to let me know that 'The Snake' called him today and informed him of the death. HE said he didn't even know till today when the nursing home called him. Uhhuh. AND that the niece, who came here twice to do things, is now in FULL control of everything. Interesting.

The house has been broken into big time several times. I spotted the break in just after Veteran's Day. Huge thick chains cut off the back door. Must have taken some major bolt cutters and powerful arms to do that.

Hazmat guy came when I called and put new chains and new locks. Then 2 days later, SAME chained door was cut again, AND the parking gate (let's you inside to the garage) was ALSO CUT. This time as luck would have it, the 'caretaker' guy just had wandered over to visit with me to see how things were going. I wasn't gonna tell him about all the new stuff. He's grieving, but since he was here, and I'd already called Hazmat again, I asked him if HE wanted to call the police.

He did, they came right over surprise surprise! Both chains cut, all gates and doors open, AND the bars off the back window of the garage AGAIN. Thieves took who knows what but LEFT 11 bucks on the ground, along with a plaid jacket and a reflective 'worker's' vest. Police weren't interested in collecting anything but the money. Guess it goes into the policeman's fund?

Hazmat guy locked everything again and said to call if anything else happened. Nothing last night (so I thought). Noticed this morning, a kerosene heater outside near the back corner of the house. Just sitting there along with some old bottles. Nothing cut bars still up.

BUT the caretaker guy had been around last night from 12am till 3ish sitting watching. Saw nothing. BUT then today he walked over to see the kerosene heater and found that the thieves had ripped out the copper water pipe and faucet from one side of the house. There is a second one on this side, but it's still there (as of an hour ago rotfl).

THEN I remembered yesterday while I was talking to the police, I noticed that the siding of the house over the torn off deck steps (first happening when all this started) was chopped up about 18" across. It wasn't that way on Tuesday. Looked weird as if something got pulled out or under the house there. I thought to myself that maybe the thieves are after copper piping. I guess I was right. Oh dear.

They might have already torn off a bunch of it. The house is up on a 2 1/2' clearance foundation so all pipes would be totally exposed and easily accessible.

AND NOW the house is off the market! Not sold, not listed for sale anymore. AND it's not listed on the property tax rolls either! It's as if it doesn't exist right now. So the guess is that the whole thing is in probate, that the 'pay your own nursing home' is owed mega bucks, and they will get the major share of any sale after probate decides what is what.

By the time probate closes, there probably won't be anything left of the house to sell. Copper being ripped out, probably wiring too, nightly trips shopping for goodies, and who knows what more they can do to it.

It's a full moon folks! Really fun around here.

I would distance myself as far as possible from it Sorta. Maybe if they keep chipping away at it, the city may just raze it and you will nice view of an empty lot.

Looked at the empty house this morning. Nothing has changed. Finally reviewed the 6 hours of surveillance tape and saw that the 'caretaker' staked out the house again last night and even did a walk around with a flashlight (on the sidewalk only, not on the property). He was there from about 3:30 am till 5:30. Also saw two bicycles go around that corner about 4:30am. Very strange. Not fast, just cruising.

Today I saw many times, two guys on bicycles cruising up and down around the streets and watched where they went in. Turns out it's the big compound where a lot of people live (mostly one family). They looked like the family members maybe about 18-20. Could be something there. Will watch for bicycles tonight.

Very dull day, no police, no Hazmat, no phone calls from frantic people. Hope it stays that way!

Because of so many reports, if law enforcement were that interested they'd stake out the place. Especially if copper thieves are at work.

Of course if they are stealing copper and aren't smart enough when stealing house wiring, some deceased person could be found in that house. And it wouldn't be the first time thieves were killed stealing copper wiring.

Yep Homer, I'm sure about the copper pipe stuff because of that missing outside faucet and pipe and the way the house siding is hanging loose from where they yanked it out. Pretty sure they are under the house doing a good job of cutting and carrying out the pipes. Makes sense why they stole a huge wheeled trash can and had to cut the gate chain to get it out. Would have been way too heavy to lift over the 4 ft chain link.

Woe to the person who eventually buys this mess and has the city turn on the main water valve. Should be quite a lake under there.

As for the wiring, I'm thinking they haven't done that yet since there is an outdoor light over the garage that is still lit. I would assume if they interrupted any of the wiring, that light would go out. Really worried if that happens because the likely hood of a fire starting from a spark is pretty near 100 percent.

Still more to happen around there. Can hardly wait for Hazmat to come this week to finish their job and then perhaps the Niece will appear and do something. I really think this whole property is now tied up in Probate. No listing on Realtor sites anymore, and NO listing on the tax rolls. Just gone, kaput, finito. Nothing there. Someday it will all be done and then NEW drama will start. rotfl

This may sound crazy, but since Hazmat tagged the house, doesn't entrance also mean under the house. It's possible some of that mercury found its way under the house. And just possibly, something else with rattles on its tail.

Yup Homer, it means the entire property, house, sheds, garage, under and in and over. Nobody cares but since the Snake and company were convinced from day one that the Hazmat 'spill' of mercury was a ruse just to keep him out, I'm still convinced it's that crew that are breaking in. They know what they want and it seems most of the stuff I've seen stacked and left for later pickup are all WATCH related. Clocks, watch parts, watch tools.

When Snake was working with the Niece, (who we all tried to advise her against and she blew us off), he actually took stuff from the house, having a 'lookout' and a guy running in and out putting things in the son's van and then the son's wife drove up and switched to the van, drove it away and it never came back, but SHE did in yet another car. The 'stuff' looked heavy and they obviously didn't want the Niece to see them taking it. Very suspicious, but then I KNOW the Snake's ulterior motives so I wasn't surprised.

It's just been a sad sad experience with no one caring but us neighbors, and the scared away caretaker guy. He is now spending nights over there in his car patrolling and watching, hoping to see a car or someone going in. So far nothing to report. Seems the Police showing up scared away whoever was breaking in. Let's hope that continues. Caretaker guy was promised the guy's SUV (in front of witnesses) and a few other little items which he will never get because there is no will. He's the only one who really cared because old guy treated him like a son and vice versa. Really hard to think of the caretaker guy grieving when no one else in the family is and He isn't even a relative.

No obit by them (only one was from general Social Security notice and only birth and death dates.) No one has appeared in person or by proxy to do anything with anything since MAY.

Life isn't fair sometimes.

Those who think they're taking advantage of a situation usually end up getting their just reward somewhere down the road.

They can gloat now, thinking they pulled it off, but somewhere, sometime, somehow, it will catch up with them.

Here's the very latest news from Sorta's Neighborhood:

I was doing 'chores' around 9 am, when I noticed that Hazmat had attacked. Two trucks, 4 other cars, each with one person inside. Also in attendance was the Snake in his car and his Son in his own SUV.

So I glued myself to the front door (didn't dare go out with Snake and Son over there (they always stare at my front porch to see if I'm looking.) Snake and Son stood by chatting with the Hazmat guys and then Snake drove off after 15 minutes. Son stayed for 45 more and then he drove off. Neither of them breached the fence line to enter the yard.

Hazmat guys put up a big 'canopy' in case it rained (it didn't) and went inside in full Hazmat gear. About an hour later one came out with a file sized box of white little paper bags (samples) and loaded it into his car and took off.

Then, after I was SURE that Snake and Son weren't coming back, I hurried over to talk to the Hazmat guy that I have been dealing with. Everyone said hi, and they were all so friendly. Fun crew. Turns out 2 of them were Firemen and one was an active duty Army guy who had nothing to do with this house, but were instead consulting with Brad the Hazmat guy on another scene from early this morning. House 3 blocks away opposite my old High School burned (11 people displaced so probably another rooming house). They have no idea yet what caused it (maybe a space heater) but one of the guys inhaled some fumes from something and the firemen wanted to know if he should be evaluated just in case.

So Brad the Hazmat guy packed all his stuff and told me that all samples were 'minor' and after evaluation the house probably would be released next week. He also told me that Snake TOOK his expensive round locks from the cut chains and told Brad, "I am no long in charge and have nothing to do with this place since the death of the owner". This was his reason for taking 'his' locks. Indeed they were, I watched him put them on. BUT get this, he LEFT one of the locks attached and in place on the GARAGE. I asked Hazmat why he didn't take that one and he said the Snake said, "It's just for show, you get into the garage by removing the boards that cover the hole from the break in.". THIS is NOT TRUE. Not not not not.

Removing that lock will allow you to slide open the main garage door. I'm fairly sure that Snake is making an excuse so when he comes over tonight after dark, and cuts THAT chain off, he will have covered himself because why would 'he' cut that chain when he has a key? So he thinks. The rest of us are smarter than that. I'm sure he will be shopping in the garage tonight or very soon.

Anyway, as soon as the 'results' are in from the testing, Brad the Hazmat guy said he will take down the caution tape and the notices of 'do not enter' and the whole thing will be back to normal. Nobody knows WHO will be in charge after that, the courts or the Niece might be. We will probably not know for a long while.

Watching the house on my security camera, so far no Snake or Son or anything happening. Love the calm. sleep

Hi Sorta,

Your remark about the only person caring will get nothing due to no will and not part of the family. I've learned time and again that there's usually just one family member who gets stuck with taking care of parental leftovers, so to speak. Usually that person gets little if any support from the rest of the family who are glad not to be involved and are just waiting for the inheritance, should there be one. Also, generally speaking, friends are more caring and reliable than family. Tho friends understand and commiserate, they don't carry the exact same familial baggage. I'm sure you've heard the saying, you can choose your friends, not your family.

And that topic, alone, at least for me, could take up another saga posting. slapforehead

Sorta, sounds like things are calming down. Glad things are better and you can relax a little.

Yep, things are calming down a bit in the last few days. No activity that I can see. Locks still in place, no interesting cars over there, BUT last night, the only remaining yard light (over the garage which lights the house door) was out. This is a nice invitation. Total darkness over there and even I can't see 'shadows' if someone vaults the fence. I've given up trying.

Hazmat should be back sometime this week or next to remove all the caution stuff and then we will see if they list it for sale again. Realtor will have to be a Saint, because they will have to notify buyers that this place was contaminated by Mercury and Radium. What fun will that be? Full Disclosure or big lawsuits down the line.

Still finding NO information on the Legal sites about ownership, taxes, nothing. Everything is wiped clean for that address as if it doesn't exist. I have a bet with my neighbor that the final nursing home (self pay, doesn't take any medicare, medicaid, veterans, or any help payments) will get any profits from the sale. His bank account would have long run out (we knew how much was in it) months ago. He was placed there FROM the veteran facility (where he got free treatment) by the Snake! Kickbacks? Snake's relatives own it? Something was strange. He was in a good faciility, well cared for, and all of a sudden was moved to a posh place NEAR the Snake's house. Yeah. I smell a rat...snake.

I'm hoping it gets bulldozed. Nice vacant lot would be a good view.
