I know this is not the place to post 'tech' problems but I have had a few, gone to their Customer Support & they have been brilliant! I have recently battled a virus & some serious Trojans & the reason I am posting here is that BFG seems to have been the main target (some of the BF applications were removed + every single launcher exe. files for the 30 plus games I had!)

I have deleted all my games & absolutely everything else BF & reinstalled 1 game which resulted also in reinstalling the BF applications. I'm still having a problem with being able to launch that 1 game from the game manager - it just doesn't happen also the direct link to more games has been duplicated & just doesn't work.

I think my system is clear but before I email back has anyone else here experienced the same or similar problems? I want to be as helpful as possible on my reply as I really like BFG but suspect that they are being targeted surreptitiously somehow or other.

I have not heard of anyone experiencing this, but I do know that sometimes when virus signatures are updated they have had false positives on BF games as well as others.

Sorry that happened to you, and I'm interested to hear what caused it.

chrissie: I have been having problems with installing BF games also. I download them, go to download page, and nothing happens. I then have to reboot to get it to work. BF did respond to this, giving me steps to take. I haven't done this yet, but am getting to the point where I will soon. If you'd like the steps, I can post them here. Although, as I mentioned, I haven't done them yet.

Hi Laurette, thank you for your offer but I have been in contact with BFG's support for over a week now & doing everything they say to no avail! The reason I posted is that there is no forum at BFG specific to their Games Manager/applications etc & problems people are having since they upgraded. Problems are being posted in some of the forums specific to a game but you have to wade through a lot of posts to try & pinpoint anything about the Game Manager itself.

Hi PATSY, you don't say how your files are all a mess - I could have said that a week ago before I discovered I had a virus & several Trojans, one of them classified as 'dangerous'. So if you haven't already I would suggest doing a full virus scan followed by a full scan with Malwarebytes. If you have Windows it's also worth downloading Microsoft Security Scanner & doing a full scan with that. (It's a temporary program) If you find anything, once you've got rid of it be sure to delete all restore points apart from the most recent as any infection can lurk in them!

I obviously can't tell you the name of my advisor but despite following their advice, problems with the Games Manager have not been fixed. You can only follow their steps & email back if it doesn't work. Yes! it's frustrating but be assured that BFG games don't want you to have problems & are doing what they can to resolve them.

Doesn't sound like a BF problem Patsy. Perhaps they can offer you suggestions in Glitches.

Hi BrownEyedTigre, I do remember a few years ago McAfee quarantining all my BF games!

Thank you! I'm happy to report (so far) that the Game Manager & links all seem to be working again! Apart from the virus & Trojans found the cause seems to be another 2 Trojans and/or PUP that I discovered this morning - I'm not very technical but they were all hidden in/posing as Microsoft Files - one was an updater' another was in the registry keys - I can't remember where the 3rd was located but after removing them BFG applications all seem to be working! (Fingers crossed!)

I have emailed their support to let them know how I found them in the hope that it may be of help to anyone experiencing the same problems!

Whether the 'corruption' is directly to do with BFG I don't know but certainly their games & application seemed to be the main target but I have absolutely nothing but praise for their support team! praise

Agree with Chrissie-also had a problem with downloading from their website. I have had to do a scan using 'Adw Cleaner' (free)here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ to get rid of all the 'PUPS'. Malwarebytes and MSE did not pick them up at all. Mine were also hiding in the same places as Chrissie's.
All is well now with BF. bravo

Hi BrownEyedTigre - for me it was eventually Malwarebytes (which I always had) that exposed the problems & that was the program they recommended to use in Safe Mode. No! it didn't get to the nitty gritty to start with - I downloaded another anti-virus program which meant disabling Security Essentials & after using it & uninstalling it I couldn't get SE back. I had an error message which I followed through & ended up deleting lots of Microsoft files as per instruction (after I'd looked the error code up!) Nothing worked so I went back to what I thought was a safe restore point a few days ago when I thought my PC was clear. I immediately got a message from Microsoft asking me to forward one of their files for investigation. After that SE was back, I did a full scan which was clear then after that a full scan with Malwarebytes which exposed the corrupt Microsoft Files - hopefully the rest is history! Hopefully this info is useful to anyone having problems with BFG at the mo but I think now they will (hopefully) have enough info to resolve things.

Excellent Chrissie! I run ccleaner and Malwarebytes every month as a routine cleaning. I am happy to hear that worked for you.

One day a few years ago my computer crashed. A tech friend took it home and removed one virus and several smaller problems. I had been using CCleaner before, now I run it everyday before I begin doing anything on my computer. I've also got RegCurePro and MalWare, both free from Microsoft and that helps too. What I find tho is that CCleaner can still find 'threads' hanging around after running the other two programs.

I'd also like to mention that I learned from my employer (a community college) that the antivirus with the a good firewal is Mozilla FireFox. According to them and I've heard it from others is that FireFox is like a brick wall in comparison to most others.

As to BFG, I've had problems downloading just purchased games and found that I've had to wait until the games show up on my list of purchased games. I've had better luck downloading from that list than straight from the point of purchase page.

Good luck with your pc problems. What a pain in the scared

BFG is the thing that ruins it all. I just sent them email again and told them I may have to cancel my membership if they can't help me. I have hundreds of games, but if yiy can't play them what good are they? These laptops are my life from wakeup to bedtime. Cancer laughing at me I'm sure. TV doesn't do it.

Patsy, I don't know how old your computer is, but sometimes it is indeed necessary to bite the bullet and get a new one. It is very difficult top diagnose all issues via the internet especially since you have even paid others to do it in person and that hasn't worked.

Have you considered backing up your files and scrapping the computer and reinstalling everything? I have had to do that more than once when things just stop behaving. If that doesn't work you may want to consider a new computer.

You have to be especially careful to get good graphics if you buy a laptop. With a desktop, you can usually add a new video card if necessary. But with a laptop you have to get good graphics to start with. A new laptop can have worse graphics than an older one. Laptops are usually built for energy conservation and portability rather than high end, or even mediocre gaming graphics.

I had to replace the graphics card on my HP computer shortly after I bought it. The "factory" card was just not compatible with many of the newer games.

Agreed Sparkle and Jenny. I have two newer computers and one cannot handle games (I use it to write and for internet) and the other is specifically a gaming computer.

Which is why it's important to make sure what you initially buy will handle all your needs/wants.

Hi PATSY, I've just seen your post & while I could agree with the good advice following I'm curious. You say you have hundreds of games - have you ever been able to play any of them on your current laptop?

If not then it obviously doesn't meet the requirements for playing games.

If you've been able to play games up until now & now can't play them then maybe something's failing in your system or it's infected - I'm sure that it's not BFG's fault. (It wasn't theirs in my case!) I'm no expert myself so it would be well worth posting on Glitches with your system specs where there are experts who maybe able to help. smile
