I
Hello Everyone,
My brother has a messed up key board. He really needs a new one.
But He insists that keyboard can be only one that has a 3rd. key for windows. The key is red.
Otherwize it won't work because the computer will keep looking for this "key' causeing the caps to lock and other things.
I thought as long as a keyboard is windows 7 compatible things should be ok. He has a HP computer 7 pro only a couple of years old. Any one hear of such a thing ? Thanks Maryjo

I've never heard of such a thing... virtually all keyboards that are not MAC keyboards have a Windows key - which is not necessarily red.

But not even Windows 8 - which along with other Windows operating systems, actually can use the Windows key - "looks" for it. The "computer" won't be looking for a specific key. And no Windows operating systems looks for a specific key on a keyboard.

I can't imagine where he heard of this.

The computer program looks for key presses, not which key is present. Only when it sees a key press does it then interpret what that key is and produce the programmed result(s).

I have never heard of a keyboard with a red Windows key.
The only Windows keys that I know of are the two that are down near the spacebar or Alt keys on modern keyboards.

When I did a Google search, I found pictures of reddish labels with Windows activation keys on them, like ***this***. I wonder if there isn't some confusion about the type of key Windows needs -- keyboard key vs. activation key.

I'll bet you're right, it had me confused as well. About the only variation I've seen for keyboards are the Multi-Media and Gaming types, which have software to activate certain features.

Does Microsoft really not know how to spell 'product'?

Okay, I'll take your word for it. grin12
I've noticed before that things made in China often come with very odd English.
All the same, things like that bring me up short!

I ran into that on Yahoo where they seem to hire techs with a slippery hold on the language.
"Your message would be delivered shortly."
Oh? Ah...alright.

Gil.

Don't take my word for it.
All I know is I saw it on that website.
And the URL has the word China in it.
And the website title is "Red version Windows 7 pro oem..."
You're right that the spelling is suspect.

There are gaming keyboards that have switchable , colored key caps , but that seems to be the domain of mechanical gaming keyboards . The only membrane keyboards I've seen with switcjable key caps , are the Thermaltake tt esports challenger , & the Razer Tarantula .

Update: My brother finally went into the control panel and removed all the keyboard info.
Then he installed a new keyboard and all is wonderful :]]]
I guess there was a bad file hanging around in there that interfeared with the keyboards.
A clean install did wonders.
Thanks again to Everyone Maryjo
