I just discovered a new game coming out called Banished! I've been a little obsessed with building games recently and this one looks right up my alley. Thought I would share this with you guys, in case anyone was interested.

From the official site:

Quote:
"In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

The objective of the game is to keep the population alive and grow it into a successful culture. Options for feeding the people include hunting and gathering, agriculture, trade, and fishing. However, sustainable practices must be considered to survive in the long term."

It looks fairly involved. You can build your town how you want, provided you have the resources you need, but you have to cope with seasonal changes and the choices you make. If you cut down too many trees then you risk driving away the animal population you can hunt, etc.

I can't wait to try this out. It gets released on February 18th and is available on Steam. I'm not sure if there will be hard copies you can buy or if it will direct download only. The dev says he expects to the price to be $15-$20.

Well, I bought it yesterday on release and already starved out a town before the evening was over. lol

I'm working on my second town and so far, it appears to be doing a lot better. I'm trying to keep the town from growing too fast. I don't want a population boom and then not have enough food or firewood for the winter. My one frustration so far has been building a farming plot and then nobody planted anything. I failed to realize that I'd made the plot too late in the year to plant anything.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone interested in it. The only real goal is to make a successful town, however you can. Steam does have achievements for it if you're into that. The US price is $19.99 and I can say it's worth every penny to me.
