That was my original answer. In sports, having equal scores is being tied, so displaying the letters of "family" in an equation could be seen as "family ties".
The moon is actually more useful than the sun since the moon gives us light at night when it's dark. The sun only gives us light during the day when it's already bright out.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Pandora, I fully understand an answer of "a family function". I half understand your explanation that displaying the letters of "family" in an equation could be seen as "family ties" in sports when the score is equal. But what is "a wag?"
