This li'l problem was given to my son's
brother-in-law's son math class, grade 5.
They were learning how to handle fractions.
Posting it because it's kinda fun to solve, but headachy!!

Circular pizzas, all same size, were cut:
some pizzas in 8 equal pieces, some in 6 equal pieces.
This was for the kids who were present
to celebrate Jack's birthday.

The pieces were all removed from the plates,
and laid all over the kitchen table!

After the party was over, Mom gathered the left-over
pieces and noticed that left was the equivalent of more than
1/2 an original pizza and less than a full original pizza.

What fraction of a pizza is the minimum that's left,
and what fraction of a pizza is the maximum that's left?

I'm a man of few words, BUT I use 'em often!!

5/8 and 7/8

More than half, the minimum would be 5/8 which is less than 4/6

Less than whole, the maximum would be 7/8 which is more than 5/6

Not quite Flo.
Remember that you can have a mixture of 1/6 and 1/8 pieces.

hmmm ok

How about minimum 2 x 1/6 and 2 x 1/8

For maximum 3 x 1/6 and 3 x 1/8

Good try; you're on right track; both can be slightly improved...

You got the minimum: 3/8 + 1/6 = 13/24

Getting the maximum is kinda similar: solution is 23/24;
how is that attained?

That's where I messed up, I was using 48ths. Forgetting my math.

Ok. So it's 6 pieces: 5 @ 1/6 and 1 @ 1/8 = 5/6 + 1/8 = 23/24
