Hi Gmyddy2,
I have played "The Last Express" many times. The only part that I found "hard" to play was the Fight Sequence. It was between the "hero" and the "bad guy". Otherwise, this game was fairly easy to play. It's one of my favorites. HAPPY GAMING!

The game has a "rewind" (the egg) instead of a save system.
That can be confusing for some players.
It's also meant to be played more than once because
it's impossible to do everything in a single playthrough.

Jenny, you are absolutely correct about that. The "clock" determines what you can and cannot accomplish the first time.

I decided to try to play this game today. I've had to play from "rewind" at least 20 times now. I'm worried that the fight I'm in right now may be a game ender for me. I got lucky with the first one but this second one is killing me. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I start out on it "fresh". Right now I've been playing for about 7 hours so I'm getting very frustrated. I hope I won't have to add it to my list of unfinished games!

I can sympathize. Having to replay timed/action sequences gets old fast, and really breaks up the story. If you get irreparably stuck, see if you can find a YouTube playthrough/"Let's Play." I found one last year that was pretty good -- without added commentary by the player, and which showed alternate conversations, alternate paths, alternate endings. Next best thing to being able to play through it yourself.

I have had this game for ages now but it is for Windows 95, PowerMac and DOS. Can anyone tell me whether or not this game has been updated and, if it has, where to go to download or buy it? Thanks thumbsup wave

You can get it here from GOG.

Big Fish also has the game, but it says it supports Windows XP and Vista, so I don't know if it's playable on newer Windows operating systems. Usually if it says Vista compatible it also works for Windows 7, but I can't say for sure.

So, I got through the fight fairly quick but then still didn't do something right before Vienna and was killed there which brought me all the way back to before the fight and now I am right back at the fight again. And I'm using a walkthrough as much as I can but it's not really helping me. If my printer worked I'd print it which would be easier to use. The game is not really alt/tab friendly so I have to quit, look at the wt, scribble stuff down and then I can't read it. Not sure I want to waste the rest of my weekend with this game but I hate to give up too easily.

I found this in a walkthrough; I'm not sure if this applies to the fight that you are on, but here is a cheat to get past a fight:

Click to reveal..
There is a fighting cheat. When the fight starts, click the right mouse button to abort the fight and return to the egg clock screen. Click on the clock to restart the fight. Repeat this procedure 5 times. After the 5th time, Cath proceeds as if he has won the fight.

This post really belongs in Adventure Games Hints & Help, so if you have more questions about the game, start a new thread in that forum. wave

Hey Marian,

Thanks for that cheat. I'll try it!

I was not really looking for hints, just "discussing" or more like complaining I suppose!

Yes, I understand. Reading your posts, I had a vague memory of there being some kind of cheat or cheats for at least one of the fight sequences. So, I did a little research online. grin

Didn't work. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

That's disappointing - maybe it was for the other fight.

It was a fairly difficult game for me, had to keep replaying an episode till I got it right.

I'd say The Last Express is fairly difficult the first time you play it. It takes quite a bit of guesswork to understand what you have done wrong or neglected to to at certain points, for example before being thrown off in Vienna. It's often hard to know what you're expected to do and the game gives very little feedback when you fail.

One of my favourite games though. I still play it through regularly. There's a pretty decent iPad version too.

The worst part is the fights though. I'm still working on the game. It is good.
