Hi there, Well, due to popular demand here we go again this year. For those new or asleep members, the aim of this thread is to compile a list of adventure game recommendations from the collected wisdom of us all. It is intended to be a resource to help people decide what game to play next. When I first came here, my best source of game recommendations was other boomers. This list is the repository of all that wisdom. The key is to list the 15 games that you would recommend to someone to play in this day and age. They are not necessarily your favourite 15 games (you might love a particular game but believe that there are better recommendations for others) but they might be. Following some debate, the scarcity or otherwise of the game is to be ignored. Many of us lend games that are hard to get, even the rare ones pop up here and there, and it would be too hard to determine what games to rule in and out. Also, judging from the previous lists, rare games are not much mentioned in any event. There are some rules though, and I reserve the right to make up more as we go  1. You can recommend a maximum of 15 games. You can choose to recommend less. 2. You cannot recommend a series. If you want to recommend all the Tex Murphy games, that will take 5 seperate recommendations, one for each game. 3. Myst and RealMyst will be counted as one game. 4. Adventure games only please. As to what is the definition of an adventure game, well you all know one when you see one. Your own parameters are fine (we are all friends after all) and its meant to be fun not rocket science. We keep the thread open for three weeks, and I will post intermittent updates. It is compulsory to get more posts than last year. So here are my 15. Oh my, FLOTSAM, I do so wish you would work with at least the top 20. That would be hard enough, but to restrict to 15 leaves out so many wonderful games. I started putting my list together when I first saw the twisty list post, as I begin to enter my selections here I have a lot more than 15 but so I will be eliminating some favorites. Since I have only been playing AGs a short time, I will only list my top 5 of the total of 22 games that I have finished.( out of these 22, three were action games.) Due to some serious BAAGing I now have 24 games waiting to be played. I might add that my choices of games come from lists like this and reviews-have picked up some of the best older games this way. Hi all, My first periodic update sees the top 5 being: The Longest Journey Syberia Dark Fall GK2 Riven The big movers are clearly the two newbies of last year. The top 5 have been listed by nearly 50% of all participants. 139 games (allowing for my errors) have already been mentioned, 25 of them more than 10 times. Well, I have to say that's not totally unexpected... given the success of the first title in a series, the second one usually has a bigger budget as well as more experience behind it... But that's NOT what you expect from, say movies. Usually the sequels are not as good as the original even when the budget for the sequel is higher. I wonder why games would be different. Maybe the technology changes so quickly for games that graphics in sequels are automatically a lot better? Or maybe the original games can no longer be easily played on current computers so not as many people CAN play them? Or maybe the industry is so new that the original games made mistakes that now, a few years later seem obvious?

But then the gaming industry has always responded well to player feedbacks, while I have never been aware of any movie makers out there that personally talk to the actual viewers and get his/her direct opinion... perhaps that's the reason why?

The key is to list the 15 games that you would recommend to someone to play in this day and age. This implies (to me) that the person is a newcomer. Again, it's tough to choose just 15. Well here tis - the final results. 165 games were mentioned abd nearly 100 boomers participated. As usual, an alphabetical and numerical list will follow. I have taken some liberties with the names where series or sequels are involved, and have tried to use full and alternate titles where possible. Any errors are of course my own. The winner might surprise. As I said at the start I thought there would be a "new" first place. No prizes for guessing which game I thought it would be. But there wasn't much in it. Great to see two releases from last year so prominent, yet at the same time those oldies but goodies keep hanging in there. And as I say every year, every game on this list is a good one, as at least one boomer thought it was worth recommending out of all the games out there. So without further ado, here are the results

I was too late in listing 15 favorite games, but I found that there are only about 15 from all the above mentioned games which I have never played I love adventure games!

Flotsam, a truly AWESOME job. I'm sure all the "Boomers" appreciate seeing how their favorite games rate with the favorite games of all the other members. That is the major benefit of your hard work. However, there is a secondary benefit for those like me that have not played many of those games, and that is....I now have a better idea of games to be on the lookout for (not to mention getting to some that are on my shelf at this moment.) I want to thank you for giving me a "wish list" of games to search for. Can't wait till next year!!! Great job. Sky.

Hi Skylark, I actually started the first of these threads for exactly that reason - namely, to get a list of games that I could play. Being new to the genre, I needed some help with all those games out there. So I am glad it helps you in that way flotsam ps - sorry about not adding the late posts, but I had to stop somehwere!

Skylark your last paragraph speaks volumes. You are so correct about the Boomer Community. Its the only site I can relate to with out feeling threatened or getting cursed out with extremely bad language just because I did not agree with the majority. Thanks for bringing this great fact to surface.
