Proving the original is not always the best (or most recommended anyway), GK2, Riven, Tex Murphy Pandora Directive, Nancy Drew Ghost Dogs and Zork Nemesis lead the way in those series.

Well, I have to say that's not totally unexpected... given the success of the first title in a series, the second one usually has a bigger budget as well as more experience behind it...

But that's NOT what you expect from, say movies. Usually the sequels are not as good as the original even when the budget for the sequel is higher.

I wonder why games would be different. Maybe the technology changes so quickly for games that graphics in sequels are automatically a lot better? Or maybe the original games can no longer be easily played on current computers so not as many people CAN play them? Or maybe the industry is so new that the original games made mistakes that now, a few years later seem obvious?
