The wit makes fun of other persons; the satirist makes fun of the world; the humorist makes fun of himself.
James Thurber (1894 - 1961), in Edward R. Murrow television interview

TEXAS BEER JOINT SUES LOCAL CHURCH OVER LIGHTNING STRIKE!

(This should keep you chuckling for awhile)
A bar called Drummond's (in Mt Vernon, Texas ) began construction on an expansion of their building, hoping to "grow" their business.
In response, the local Southern Baptist Church started a campaign to block the bar from expanding - petitions, prayers, etc.
About a week before the bar's grand re-opening, a bolt of lightning struck the bar and burned it to the ground!
Afterward, the church folks were rather smug - bragging about "the power of prayer".
The angry bar owner eventually sued the church on grounds that the church... "Was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, through direct actions or indirect means."
Of course, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.
The judge read carefully through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply.
He then opened the hearing by saying:
"I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that what we have here is a bar owner who now believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not!"

Good morning y'all. (yawn)

Gonna take a few nights to get used to this new mattress but I think we are going to like it.

Just had a thunder boomer come through and I was in the midst of ordering some games from BF. Just what I need, more games. Hah!!

Just got a text from Vince. Meds seem to be keeping Susie more comfortable.

Speaking of games, think I will go play something. Y'all be good and have a wonderful day.

Bets

Happy Sunday to all. Just as I thought all the illegal fireworks were gone from the neighborhood...

Last night, after 3 months of nothing going boom in the night, the SAME house set off a volley of rockets and other noisy, dangerous, things. They did that 4 or more times from 9 to midnight. Maybe later, since I dozed off somewhere, and at the same time, loud music from somewhere in that area. My guess is that someone visits, brings the fireworks, and they spend the evening having fun putting the entire neighborhood in peril of burning up. This time they started in the street, but later moved to behind the house, where there are tall dry dry trees and lots of tall dry dry grass to catch fire. What a fun family. I think the key is the guy who used to live there, then moved across the street, then got evicted after bringing in about 7 other guys who spent the days drinking and working on their choppers (motorcycles). When he left, things calmed down, but he visits sometimes. Saw him coming in just before dark and then the fireworks started. Gotta be a connection.

OH and the house that shoots the fireworks, is up for auction/foreclosure. They haven't paid the mortgage for over a year, are behind in trash pick up payment for 10 months, and who knows what else. I think there was a divorce a few months back and the police were there almost every night/day and then lots of 'stuff' moving out. I'm pretty sure the place is a rental since the names on the tax rolls don't match who is living there.

Can hardly wait till May 5 to see if the place actually changes hands. If it does, the occupants will be moving and some big company will rehab the place, probably build more houses on the huge lot and maybe the fireworks will be over. Time will tell.

Tenant news: Yesterday at 6 pm, my little lady tenant comes actually running up the driveway to my back door. I knew something terrible was wrong! So she explains, that her husband (who has been ill for several years) wants me to get him 'the fight'. Huh? It's always fun interpreting what they are saying. Anyway, I rush down, find him in his recliner (he eats, sleeps, everything there) and find out that HE wants to watch a boxing match on pay-per-view, and his live-in son went to the Casino and left a notepad with sketchy instructions on how to program the TV to get the fight.

So I read the note. It's got a channel number and says to press OK. I go to the channel, it's the fight, and it says pay SEVENTY DOLLARS to see it. Oh my! This is my older couple, retired, minimal income, son has no job, and the dad wants a fight costing 70 bucks? So I go back and forth between the mom and dad, asking if they are SURE they want me to press the OK button to spend 70 bucks on a fight that's already started 2 hours back (but goes on another 5 with all coverage) and they discuss it and finally HE says "I WANT TO SEE MY FIGHT!" So that does it. She says OK, he demands it. I confirm, press the button and he gets the fight. They don't seem concerned that it cost soooooo much. Wow. Guess it's a different world. Hope the son wins at the Casino. rotfl

HaHa Sorta, wait till they "reality" 70$ on the battered credit card -she'll probably come running back to you. Oh my.

Nice grey lizard type of day and all pets asleep and so quiet and birds chirping and I'm so lazy andandand.........

King Arthur flour has a new flour blend and 2 delicious cake recipes on back of the box. I was going to make the chocolate one today but Monday's a good day for that after all it is Sunday.

The catnip is growing, those little dicots are just peeking out from the potting soil. Wish us good luck

Happy Sunday all

OK here goes. Unbleached cake flour blend. Unbleached flour for cake and pastry recipes. Enjoy moist tender cakes without added chemicals And there's "unbleached" blazoned across the lower left corner of the box and a picture of king arthur on top of box. It's in a 2 pound box and it's king arthur flour. It's a blend of unbleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid, unmodified cornstarch. And wait till you see the picture on the front of the box. Whew!!!!

Anyway I changed my mind and made the chocolate and it's dark and richrich and the recipe is on the back of the box.

L4 do you make rhy bread? If so can you get rhy flour in your stores or do you order it.

Bon Appitite

Yankee, I don't make rye bread. I make sourdough bread all the time, but that's about it on the bread front. I take it the cake is wonderful?

Get home safely Ana.

RE: the cake. I used the 9 X 12 pyrex cake pan and it's not baked in the middle. So it might be safer to use those round layer pans. It's kinda like those old fashioned pudding cakes. Recipe said bake 30 min and I baked it 42 but it's still batter. Maybe it's my oven too. Who knows.

I'm dying for home baked new york state deli rhy bread
