I'm playing a game called "The Vulture: An Investigation in Paris Under Napoleonic Rule" by Nemopolis and am stuck on a rebus puzzle. It has a picture of a black spade (playing card) and a pushchair (baby carriage) on it. I have solved the second half, which is "pus", but can't figure out what goes under the picture of a spade. MaG thought I should post here for help.

Here is a picture of a spade at this link:

Right next to it with no symbols is a picture of an old-fashioned pushchair (baby carriage) here:

After the baby carriage picture it has (-hchair)

Under the spade picture on the game is a blank box which I need the answer to. Under the baby carriage picture I have typed in the word "pus" in the box, which is correct because the computer made a sound to let me know the answer is correct.

I just need to know what the spade picture is. I've tried "spade", "ace", "shovel", "black spade" and none are correct.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,
Call1e

Is that the exact picture of the spade in your game? Is it possible that what you are seeing is a cam (machinery part) rather than a spade? That could give the answer of campus.

Here's a diagram with some cam types:

Well, IF the spade and pushchair represent ONE rebus,
then you need a word for spade that makes some sense
when combined with pushchair: perhaps high pushchair?
"high" can be associated with spade, spade being the
"high suit" in card games...

I'm a man of few words, BUT I use 'em often!!

If I understand correctly, it is a single word answer and the second half is "pus" because the clue was something like *picture of pushchair* - hchair.

That's what led me to think of campus...other possibilities: octopus, platypus, cattywompus smile

I didn't see it that way...took it as "pus" being associated
only with the stroller...OH Callie: get us out of our misery eek

Just a suggstion - there is a street in Paris called Rue de Picpus. Since you have correctly solved the "pus" part and since the game is about an investigation in Paris, I wondered if that might be relevant. Don't see what pic would have to do with spade, though. Good luck with the game. wave

Looks promising Sondi, piques is French for spades; sounds exactly like "pic".

Thanks for the input from everybody. I was gone for a couple of days and only just saw the posts tonight. I have solved the puzzle, thanks to a walkthrough of the game that I found on a Russian webpage, which I then translated into English using an online webpage translator site. The symbol for the spade was "pike". I thought you had to use your imagination a little to get a pike out of a picture of a spade. Sondi and CanukDenis were correct about the answer being "Picpus". That's the part of the game I'm in now, and hope to finish playing it this weekend. I really appreciate everybody's help!
