Good results. Vince called and said they found a couple small polyps and took them off. A little bit of diverticulitis, which is normal for her age. Everything else was okay. Final results will be in later. I am so relieved.
Thanks so very much for your prayers. They all help.
Love ya all.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts, prayers and hugs. Boy, did I need them. We still are not out of the woods yet. Need to find out why she is retaining iron and get the level down so she will start eating. Will certainly keep you all posted.

C Dif test came back negative. Whew. We went to see her last night. Very weak and somewhat confused. Did an echo cardiogram last night and have taken her to get fluid drawn off her lungs and belly. Hasn't seen dr. yet.
Busy day, just got back from Sam's. Am doing laundry then need to do some housecleaning today as I am going to a wedding shower tomorrow.
Keep you posted.

They took off more then 8 liters of fluid off her belly yesterday. She is feeling better today and even put on some make-up. Easy day for her today, just breathing exercises and food. Vince says she doesn't have an option about eating. Still no diagnosis yet but it is encouraging.

Had a nice chat with Susie yesterday. I was surprised when she called. Still nothing definite yet. Haven't heard anything yet today.
Edit: Just heard from Vince. Physical therapy today and the last round of antibiotics. Doctors will be in later.

Diagnosis: Cirrhosis of the liver. Plans are to have her moved to a assisted living unit where she can get physical therapy and occupational therapy. This till she gets strong enough to go home. She will be on a low salt high protein diet and medication. This all could take place today or tomorrow, depending upon finding a place where she can get the therapy she needs. She will probably have to have fluid taken off periodically and check ups with the liver specialist. Down the road, she may need a liver transplant. Long ways away though if she follows her diet and everything else. This is just mind boggling. At least we know what we are dealing with. I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Don't know what I would do without you all. Love ya. Bets

I hope the treatment helps her heal quickly. Do they have any idea why so she can control it? It's usually a secondary disease. At least they know what it is so she can get help. Hugs to you all!

Mind boggling is the only way to describe it - but at least a diagnosis allows for an actual plan of treatment. Sound like the prognosis is a long, but treatable road. Onwards!

A few post back. I did mention the liver. Fluid retention in the abdomen is signs of liver problems. My brother-in-law had the same thing.
My prayers for Susie.. Hang in there Bets. <HUGS>

Dr. kept Susie in the hospital last night as she was dehydrated. She is in good spirits this morning and is waiting for the dr to come in and give the okay to transfer her to the rehab where she will be staying for a few weeks.

She is now at the rehab center. Want to get over and see her as today is her birthday. Will ask Vince what she would like special to eat and will try and get it and take it over.
She still has a rough row to hoe.

Vince said Susie sounded much better today. Getting up, getting dressed and putting on makeup. Walked some without the walker. This was a good move for er. Slowly making progress.

Vince said Susie had a good day yesterday. Tomorrow, she has to see the liver specialists, then get more fluid taken out. Vince says she looks like she is 9 months pregnant. No way Jose. We were over there Monday and she sounded so much better. She needs a lot of physical therapy though.

They took off six and a quarter liters yesterday. She went back to rehab and sat up for awhile and ate some cottage cheese and peaches. Haven't heard anything today.

Susie had a really good day yesterday. She maneuvered her wheelchair to the elevator, then to the dining room. Got a bowl of soup, salad and fruit, then got herself back to her room. No help from Vince. Vince said he had tears in his eyes watching her do all this.
Onward with progress, Susie.

Vince talked to Dr. this morning. They are trying to get her numbers down so the liver doesn't make so much fluid. Then they will do the biopsy. She is somewhat confused at times. We were going to go see her yesterday but she was having too bad a day.

Susie is home. She asked for me yesterday so I went over there for a little while. Bill and I will go over tomorrow. She was in some pain while I was there yesterday and she just rambled on. Couldn't hear half what she was saying as she talked so low. She gets her walker today. Hopefully she will get up and start moving around a little.

Sometime next week. Dr. took Vince's card and said he would call as soon as he found something out. Her primary dr. is also calling every day.

unofficial diagnosis. Cirrhosis of the liver, caused by high levels of iron and fatty tissues. Susie is and was never fat. This is NOT caused by alcohol. She will be seeing the liver specialist the end of July. Good chance of liver transplant if she qualifies and she gets her strength up. Nurse is coming in almost every day and has P.T. every other day. Here we go, waiting again.

Oh, Flutist, I'm glad you know something, even if it's not good. At least, you can plan now. When will you get the official word?

I've been checking several times a day to see if you had heard something. So glad there is SOMETHING to deal with. I had a feeling a liver transplant was going to be required. Another good reason she looked up her family - I wonder if there is a family history?

Drac, there is a family history of pancreatitis and gall bladder. The biggest thing is to get her strong enough to do a liver transplant. She needs to get an appetite so she can start eating solid foods. She talks about texture of some foods, even those she used to eat. The home health care nurse she has lives just around the corner from her and is trying different foods on her. Her name is Susie and she is also adopted. Wow.

Hmmm... would be interesting to know if there is any connection between the family history and the non-alcoholic cirrohsis.

My prayers Bets...
People have to understand that... Cirrhosis of the liver is not always caused by alcohol.. I had a friend who died from this because of taking prescription pills, and Tylenol.
Prescription medication that these doctors gives out sometimes do more harm then good.

Dar, you are correct. If the doctor is on the ball and is aware to this, they will order blood tests to keep tabs on it.

Susie back in hospital again. Went last night. Hemoglobin very low. They gave her a transfusion. Have not heard from Vince yet this morning.

Put Susie in I.C.U. last night. We were up there to see her and she is very jaundiced. Called this morning before church and she was a little better. Numbers were down. Vince texted awhile ago and said they were taking her for CT scan then to another floor in I.C.U. Will keep you updated.

She is out of ICU. Spent a couple hours with her today. Bill and I will go back tonight. Yesterday, she was pretty alert, eating and drinking a little. Today, not quite as alert. Took blood tests today. Have not heard results. Kidney specialist in today. Keeping watch. They are going to put in a pick line in this afternoon. That is all I know for now.
