You know, oldbroad, I've liked everyone I've ever met from Chicago, which has led me to think I never want to visit.
I have this theory that all the great people have left Chicago for other parts, tired of walking backward against the wind in the winter, I guess.
What are you still doing there? grin

Gil.

Chicago is an awesome city. Born and raised there and I am still in awe of it. I will never tire of Lincoln Park and the lakefront.

I liked Chicago; in the sixties, my grandparents lived in Oak Park and we would visit them. My father grew up there. smile

Well, nobody said I was great so...

I don't mind the winters too much though it is true that I don't like strong wind and I don't like the ice we had all last winter. I definitely prefer winter to summer though.

Marian, I'm just a bit north of Oak Park. Beautiful homes there.

Hi Laurette,

yes, many of them look and sound (almost too?) scary.

I have played on few of those games:

- Alter Ego
- Anna
- Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok
- Dark Fall: Lost Souls
- Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder
- Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage
- Eleusis
- Last Half of Darkness: Society of the Serpent Moon
- Reperfection - Volume 1

You have probably played them 'all'?

The only one I have downloaded from Desura is Reperfection (Click). I liked the story which is about trying to change the future by changing the past, not an easy task. It's not very scary, not long either, maybe 3-5 hours. But I liked it anyway, the story is quite unique. It's not so expensive, I took it as my share of supporting Indie developers. That game was not a bad launchpad to next level, I believe.

Timo

Oldbroad: Yes, I do think I'll try The Cat Lady. When I do, I'll let you know.

Timo: I haven't played:Baron Wittard; Anna; Eleosis or Reperfection. The others I have. Thanks for the suggestions.

Traveler: I "used" to live in Chicago; and you definitely should visit (in the summer!). It's a beautiful city, with wonderful restaurants and museums.

oldbroad: I feel like I'm insulting you when I type that (kidding). I looked at the trailer for The Cat Lady and feel it's not for me, unfortunately. Games, movies, etc. about suicide upset me. Probably my loss re this game. But, thank you for the recommendation.

Laurette,

To echo the suggestions of some others, the Dark Fall games are consistently excellent. You really can't go wrong with any of them, though the third (Lost Souls) is somewhat "bloody" and more macabre than the other two. Barrow Hill was quite enjoyable, and though it still doesn't get a lot of ink, I really liked Baron Wittard. It has a huge space and lots of nifty artifacts to explore, a good story, challenging puzzles, and nice graphics and ambient music/sounds that add to the sense of decay and dread as you explore. Of course there is Scratches as well, which is usually high on everyone's list for good reason.

I enjoyed Baron Wittard too. I remember a LOT of note-taking with this one -- as books and documents didn't remain in inventory. It had a good, eerie atmosphere.
