The Sanitarium disks were the exploding ones that I remember.

I definitely remember that it was the Sanitarium disks that were exploding; my memory isn't what it used to be, but I'm certain about this. It would have been even more ironic if it had been the Bad Mojo disks, though. Think about it. wink

15 games purchased during this sale? That makes me feel better. I'm still watching the sales, though, so I'm not out of the woods yet. grin

Ok, Sanitarium. Don't know why I had Bad Mojo in my head.

I am also still watching the sale. The Dracula Trilogy is coming up again and I'm pretty sure I'll be hitting buy because I did love the first two games.

So far I bought all the Broken Sword, all the Tex Murphy except the latest one, Sanitarium, Ether One, Gemini Rue (the reviews scared me off but this was cheap enough), Journey to the Center of the Earth which I have on disc not played, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, and Stacking.

I was wondering what you had purchased; that all sounds very good. thumbsup

Gil, I guess I'm doing better than you are: when I look at the bundle sale at the top of the GOG sale page, it tells me that I own *part* of this bundle. grin

Oh (sigh) I saw that message once, too, Marian.

If you want to really see how weak-kneed you are when a deal comes along, go to your Shelf and count your games.
Oog.

Congratulate me, though!
I turned down Kentucky Route Zero!
(Please don't let it come up again...please....)

How long does this sale go on? Do I have to keep an eye on it while I'm at work?

Marian,

I gather Kentucky Route Zero is not much of an adventure game but it is an adventure and nearly all of the reviews from people who've played it are glowing.
Of course, they glowed for Dear Esther, too, and I have no desire a'tall to play that.
I dunno, there's just something about this one that intrigues me.
Problem is, aside from the half price on the sale still being above what I can cajole myself into paying, Kentucky Route Zero is not finished.
You're paying for a season pass and it's on Episode 3.
So...I keep telling myself Wait until it's done.
Might be hard, though.

Gil.

Ah, I see. Wait until it's done isn't easy, but it's great if you can do it. There's something about beginning a game knowing that the entirety lies before you that makes it even better.

Thanks for the heads up about the game. I'll be keeping it in mind.

Too late, I bought it, but to be honest it's not a lot to pay so I am happy to take the chance. Just started Moebius now smile

Buy the whole bundle or take your pick of those you don't own.
Bundle prices, up to 90% off, are below.

Broken Sword 1 through 4: $5.56
Leisure Suit Larry compilation (3 games): $4.37
Tex Murphy Classics (4 games): $7.16
Deponia Trilogy: $11.97
Runaway Trilogy: $5.97
Sam and Max (3): $9.47

I'm not sure but I think Steam is starting a big sale today, too, for those of you who use it.

Gil.

I too got the email from GOG about the sale and it's super, some of the prices are unbelievable. I've bought three or four games but it seems that so many are action or strategy and I don't really care for those, I prefer adventure point and click. I've been tempted to purchase Syberia 1 & 2 (I have two copies) and A New Beginning, my granddaughters favorite, even though we've played it. Afraid the discs will not play on newer computers. Is Sanitarium that great? Is it gory? I'd like to pick up a few more while the prices are so good. Any recommendations?

Sanitarium is strange, Terri824.
There's a tiny bit of gore but the real horror comes in Max's drugged dreams.
Dreams?
They must be dreams.
You start in an asylum where no one but you is sane.
You're sent to save horribly deformed children from a monstrous 'Mother' by a statue of an angel that comes to life yet it seems they don't care...or do they?
You play as an alien superhero, your own sister who died in childhood, an Aztec chief, all the time trying to surface from the nightmare and discover what it all means.
The graphics are relatively old so you're more or less shielded from what it might look like now if Sanitarium was new.
(Oh, boy, perish the thought!)

Movement is a little odd; you hold down the Right mouse button and steer Max in the direction you want him to move.

I have only two real criticisms: whoever voiced Max sounds as if he understudied a wooden Indian but, hey, at least he doesn't whine; grin and right at the end of the game there's a 'boss fight' the devs should have left out.
I ended up watching the last little bit of the game on YouTube since I couldn't get past that miserable chessboard but it really made no difference; I totally enjoyed the game.

Anyhow, here's the GOG page for Sanitarium with screenshots and other peoples' views on the game.
I looked for a review here on GB and was surprised to see there isn't one since Sanitarium is on the list of all time greats but there are a couple of walkthroughs.

Gil.

I lucked out on the chessboard in Sanitarium the first time I played; I had little to no idea what I was doing, and I beat it. Ignorance was bliss. smile

Terri, I have also seen GOG running 2-hour sale/flash deals on the following adventure games:

The Dark Eye: Memoria
Edna and Harvey: The Breakout
Edna and Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes
Blackwell Bundle (The Blackwell Legacy, Blackwell Unbound, Blackwell Convergence, and Blackwell Deception)
Ceville
The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles

.....just to name a few. The 2-hour sale/flash deals do repeat from time to time; you just have to keep checking back to see what is currently on offer. wave

Wow, that game sounds a bit bizarre Gil but if it goes on the flash sale again I'll grab it. Thanks for the info.
Marian I'll check out the game recommendations, thanks. I think most of those have cartoon characters which are not my favorite but I'll still take a look.
Terri wave

I've been to GOG so often to check the "flash sales" I'm surprised my G & O on my keyboard work.

I didn't find The Dark Eye on GOG. Is Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare heavy on action and is it part of the Alone in the Dark series? Oops, think I just answered my own question on that one. Do you have to play 1,2 & 3 to understand The New Nightmare or does it stand alone?

Terri,

If you want to find a game on GOG, just go to Browse Games and use the Search Function.
Here is The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.

Gil.

Thanks Gil. I was wanting The Dark Eye Memoria. I should have been more specific! Let me try this again. I know darn well I did a search for Memoria and it did not pull it up, however I just did it again and there it is. Wow, I'm scaring myself.
Any input for the game Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare? I've looked at so many games I think I'm losing track of what I'm doing.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare has adventure-game elements, but you are also shooting monsters and the like. If you are looking for a pure adventure game, I think you would be disappointed.

I got a ton of games I'd been wanting for some time. Last 2 Runaways, 11th Hour, Memoria, Leisure Suit Larry set (was sad that it didn't have Reloaded, but oh well), Sanitarium, Inherit the Earth and some non-adventures. Still waiting for the "Quest" games (aside from "for Glory") as they have eluded me for some time. I'm hoping they make it in a bundle for 75-90% off. Otherwise, I'll have to settle for a mere half off.

Oh yes, and Amnesia and Dark Fall 3. I'm gonna have to play Amnesia, Outlast, Darkfall back-to-back and see if I have any sanity left by the time it's done.

Marian, does the New Nightmare have a lot of action? I don't mind a little, just not so much or so difficult that I get frustrated.
Thanks.
