We should every night call ourselves to an account; What infirmity have I mastered today? What passions opposed? What temptation resisted? What virtue acquired? Our vices will abort of themselves if they be brought every day to the shrift.

Work Laws

A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the butt.

After any salary raise, you will have less money at the end of the month than you did before.

Anyone can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work he/she is supposed to be doing.

At work, the authority of a person is inversely proportional to the number of pens that person is carrying.

Don't be irreplaceable, if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

Eat one live toad the first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.

Everything can be filed under "miscellaneous."

Following the rules will not get the job done.

Getting the job done is no excuse for not following the rules.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a [blip] fool about it.

If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.

If you are good, you will be assigned all the work. If you are really good, you will get out of it.

If you can't get your work done in the first 24 hours, work nights.

Important letters that contain no errors will develop errors in the mail.

It doesn't matter what you do, it only matters what you say you've done and what you're going to do.

Never delay the ending of a meeting or the beginning of a cocktail hour.

No matter how much you do, you never do enough.

People who go to conferences are the ones who shouldn't.

The last person that quit or was fired will be held responsible for everything that goes wrong.

To err is human, to forgive is not our policy.

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question, "How would Wonder Woman handle this?"

When the bosses talk about improving productivity, they are never talking about themselves.

When you don't know what to do, walk fast and look worried.

You are always doing something marginal when the boss drops by your desk.

You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

Work Phrases

Here are a number of useful phrases you can use at work...

1. Thank you. We're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.

2. The fact that no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.

3. I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

4. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

5. I have plenty of talent and vision. I just don't care.

6. I like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.

7. What am I? Flypaper for freaks!?

8. I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

9. I'm already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.

11. I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.

12. It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn off.

13. Yes, I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

14. No, my powers can only be used for good.

15. How about never? Is never good for you?

16. I'm really easy to get along with once you people learn to worship me.

17. You sound reasonable...Time to up my medication.

18. I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.

19. I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

20. I don't work here. I'm a consultant.

21. Who me? I just wander from room to room.

22. My toys! My toys! I can't do this job without my toys!

23. It might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy.

24. At least I have a positive attitude about my destructive habits.

25. You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.

26. I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.

27. Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Writing Techniques

Avoid alliteration. Always.

Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat.)

Employ the vernacular.

Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.

Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.

It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.

Contractions aren't necessary.

Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.

One should never generalize.

Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."

Comparisons are as bad as cliches.

Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.

Be more or less specific.

Understatement is always best.

One-word sentences? Eliminate.

Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.

The passive voice is to be avoided.

Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.

Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.

Who needs rhetorical questions?

Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

Good morning boomies! Another rainy day here. The last two weeks have been a wash out here. The ground is saturated. I'm off to do the errands I should have done yesterday. Maybe the sun will peek out and I can run the dogs later when I finish my chores.

I hope you all have an awesome day!

Magnificent Monday Y'all puppy

Doggies and I had a hot, humid, sweaty walk but glad we did it. Then had a quick chat with daughter. She is leaving today for Korea for a year and is a bit weepy. I might be a bit weepy too, but am working at keeping it at bay.

I have jerky marinade making on tap and need to mail a package to son and not sure what else. Maybe my chair and a book.

While we were out walking, we discovered there is a broken water pipe in the neighborhood. I checked when I got home and we still had water...so far so good.

Had big ole storms last night...lost all connectivity...net, phone, etc....so grabbed a book and went to bed.

Hoping Seagy will eat this morning...she declined the honor yesterday morning so ended up putting her back on nausea meds and another antibiotic at noon. She ate last night so I did the happydance and will do it again if she eats this morning.

Ana, how is your shoulder?

What fun. There was a 'class action' suit against a local plumbing company and they are settling it. I got a notice last month and this month another saying I was going to get $37.45. Oh boy. I have no idea why, but I guess they are paying all customers just in case. Nice to get something back even if I don't know why. Ha.

Penelope Peacock was waiting for me at breakfast. She's starting to respond to sounds and comes over looking for grapes. I leave a dish out at night anyway and it's always empty in the morning, but she seems to like chasing them as I toss them to her. Then she broadened her 'area' to my front porch. Yuk! Left me a nice 'present' which I hosed off. Guess she's bug hunting. Plenty of spiders and stuff on my porch. She was perched on my porch swing a few ago. Luckily she didn't leave me another present there.

Got my new Medicare card. Strange to see my name and ex hubby's SS number but I guess it's the way it needs to be. Amazingly after all these years, I REMEMBERED his SS number. I had typed it so many times on job applications and other documents that it must have stuck. 40 years and it's still in my brain. Wow.

Off to thrift. Maybe I'll find something good. My neighbor wants one of those 'hard of hearing' phones. I've seen them but haven't found any this week so far. Today may be the lucky day.

luck Sorta

There was just a very interesting press conference in which our Police Chief, who rumor said was retiring, just informed all that he did not wish to retire but was being forced to. Overall, very civilized as it was joint with the Police Chief and the Mayor.

I'm heading out to mail a package to son. Saw a Chicken magazine (who knew) while out shopping the on the weekend. Son is talking about getting chickens, so thought the magazine would make him smile. wave

Miss Seagy had just bent her head to eat when she was dive bombed by a fly. Well, she went immediately on hinny guard...all thoughts of food gone! Doesn't work that way with me. puppy

'Hinny Guard'...love it!

Is anyone else having trouble with PayPal? I can't get into it at all. Tried all the 'fixes' and using another browser, and PayPal diagnostic sites says it UP for everyone. I'm not so sure there isn't something being hacked, etc. Sigh, wanted to buy something on ebay and probably won't get it now. Darn.

Just put on a white blouse and just now dripped chocolate icecream -2 drops- on the front. Why do I do those things. Good I cream though, Dryers french swerl. Did groceries this AM and among other things I bought the I cream, 8 klondike bars and 4 other I cream bars -summer heat, hit us!!) It's been since last year that I've had I cream.

It's hot here but doesn't seem as hot as previous years. Maybe we'll have an ice age?

That game , Wolfenstein, has lots of German dialog and at the grocery I've caught myself thinking in German. Total immersun is great to learn a language. One more plus for gaming.

Froeliche Montag, alles

Yankee, everyone knows the quickest way make things drip on your blouse is put on white or any other light solid color. Both ice cream and Italian food will do. I think it's a Universal Law of some type. In fact, there was an episode of The Walking Dead (one of my favorites) that I was watching with a friend and the girl (human) finally found a change of clothes to replace her yukky, dirty, blood-stained clothes. What did she pick out to wear? You got it, a beautiful pastel blouse and sweater. And what happened immediately to her pristine outfit? Yup, the zombies attacked and that nice pastel outfit was covered in blood. Perfect. I remarked to my friend before the 'gore' started that she was stupid to put on such a light colored outfit. Seconds later...bingo...she got it all dirty again. Too bad they didn't have any ice cream. Probably easier to wash out than Zombie blood. rotfl zombie

Sorta, I just logged in and it's fine.

Yankee, do you have a high speed blender? I make my own dairy free ice cream and it's awesome!
Enjoy your day!

Just got done with all my errands and ran the dogs. Time to shower.

Yup Ana, I think someone was trying to hack the site or they were doing 'something' on the PayPal site themselves to 'improve' it. I signed out, turned off computer, went shopping, and came back and voila!, all worked fine, got the remote control ordered. Whew.

One of my daughters is vegan and I bet she would like that recipe too, Ana. I don't cook anymore, just ittybitty things -I eat mostly raw fruit and vegges. When we all were at home years ago, there were 7 of us, I'd cook these monster extraveganzas and once after a mamma mia Italian meal I realized all my pots and pans were used and in the sink and ready to be washed. That was good eaten' though. We had an Alaskan Malamute and she was my pre-wash technician. A fine job she did too. She also polished off a few main meals too. I miss her.

All you do is throw three ripe sliced frozen bananas, a tsp real pure organic vanilla extract and 6 ice cubes in a high speed (vitamix) blender. That makes vanilla ice cream. You can add some frozen blueberries, strawberries, peanut butter or anything else you want to change the flavor. It's perfect!
