Am replaying Frankenstein (Through the eyes of the Monster) and am stuck on how to save games. So far all the info I have does not tell me how to name the file for a saved game, and all the names I have tried come back as 'not a valid file name'.

What is the secret?

Also have tried different keys to avoid the long intro but can't find the key to disrupt it. Is there one?

To save, press space and select File Save from the menu. If you get a message about not a valid file name, it's because you are trying to use spaces or other disallowed characters, or too long a name.

Letters and numbers only, and NO MORE than eight characters.

Am in the pulverizing room and have pushed, pulled, punched etc. and have managed to pulverize only 4 rocks. What is the secret to keeping the rocks flowing? Have followed a WT instructions but still cannot get the rocks to flow continually. The conveyor belt shows rocks flowing smoothly but between the next belt and the switch for the stamping machines I rush back and forth using them to no avail. What am I missing? wave

Hi ya', Lilac........Rest assured that nearly everyone had problems here, including "moi!" LOL lol Another thing you might check if you are still having a problem, is to make sure the cart is sitting at the end of the line down below....

Have tried to see a cart at the end of the line but if I go to the place where you pull the lever to clear the conveyor belt, there is only a vague outline of a cart there. And I can find no way to get further into the picture to look for a cart. Am I missing something here.

And if I go to the front of the conveyor belt where the two buttons are, I see a vague outline of a full cart (I think) at the end of the belt? But it is so vague am not sure about that.

Couple of tech questions: Why does the conveyor belt stop even though I have crushed the rock? Then I have to start all over again. Is this just 'in the game'?

When at the beginning of the conveyor belt where the two buttons are: why do I have to hit the red button first and hear a loud bang and then the black button gives me the sound of a generator starting but it stops before I can get to the other switch. Normal?

Otherwise still banging away at the rocks. Have counted up to 12 now that I have successfully pulverized and sent to someplace -- into a hamper I hope! Now if I can only find that hamper. Maybe the rocks are all just dumped on the ground.
Help help.

Hi Lilac...It sounds like you might have the cart there and that it is full. That could have happened and, hopefully, it did ...LOL lol

The following excerpt from Chris Scott's walkthrough just might answer your questions:

WARNING SPOILER:

.
.
.
.
.
Pulverizing Chamber
1.Climb the ladder and walk to the far end.
2.Turn right and move toward the conveyor belt that is identical to the others you discovered elsewhere.
3.Activate the conveyor and leave the close-up, then turn right and walk to the pair of buttons mounted next to the
belt.
4.Activate the motor with the bottom button and walk to the controls for the pulverizer in the center of the cavern.
The Pulverizer Machine
(Hand/eye coordination needed here)
1.Throw the knife switch to activate the belt.
2.The right button controls the right smasher and the left button controls the left one.
3.As each boulder moves down the belt, hit the left button as it passes beneath the left smasher.
4.When it moves beneath the right smasher, press the right button.
5.Continue until the belt stops and the bell rings. This indicates the cart is full of just the right amount of the right-sized
rubble in the mining cart.
6.If you accidentally let the boulders or large rubble pass, the machine will shut off automatically. You must walk over
to the right end of the machine and pull the clutch to clear the belt. You must also walk over to the left end of the belt
and press the bottom button again to re-engage the motor and perform the process again.
7.Once you have filled the mining cart, climb down the ladder and exit the chamber.

Still crushing rocks and not getting much of anywhere. If I take it for granted that I have the bucket filled -- (and maybe it is not) will that affect the game later? Would feel more comfortable if I could get that bell to ring. laugh

HI Lilac.....If you have the mine cart filled with ore, you should be able to go down the ladder, walk along the tracks and find the switching mechanism. Pull the left switch to send the (hopefully full) mine cart on its way. Follow it along the route to its destination. You can tell when you get there if you have ore in it or not...that would be the Chrystallization Chamber up above there. smile

You did check to make sure that all the belts were moving rocks along, right? I forgot to ask that earlier. I think there are three of them at least. smile

Left pulverizing room and went to check in the mines re the cart. Got it but when it went by on the rails, it was empty! So does that mean after all that work with stamping on the stones that nothing was accomplished? mad

HI Lilac...Yup, I'm afraid so. I would suggest that you read through Chris Scott's walkthrough, up to where you are now to see if you missed something, at least from the point where you first entered the Mine Tunnels. smile smile smile There are a bazillion things to be accomplished in this game and missing something will stall you out. I suspect it has to do with the conveyor belts, and operation of the crusher, but not positive. You'll find it! smile

Hmmmmmmmmm. Well I am following the walkthrough you suggested but I have discovered that there is a section, when in the mine, where you attach a chain to a cart and then throw the switch and pull the trap door down to enter the pulverizing room. I entered through another way and am thinking that maybe that is why the cart is not getting the rocks because that trap door was not open. However, the WT did not talk about this at all. So several things to backtrack to to see what is what. eek

Hi Lilac..I don't know for positive if that would make a difference but I do recall I pulled the chain to get to the crusher room. wink I could make a difference all right! wink Chris Scott's walkthrough is the most comprehensive and shows the most direct path through the game. But even that one doesn't have everything in it! At one point in the game, I pulled three different walkthroughs for comparison ... I was so completely mired in the great black stuckness! LOL lol

HI Lilac.......assuming that you went down the tracks to the cave like area under the Chrystallization Room and pulled that chain, I don't know what else to advise, except reading all the walkthroughs available up to where you are now. That, and backtracking, often shakes things loose. I have to say, though, that I am sure that half as many people finish this game as don't. It reminds me a bit of the struggle playing NINE: The Last Resort. Different, but every bit as detailed and "picky." LOL smile smile smile

Hey Witchen: Well, friend send me a saved game re the pulverizing room and it, indeed, saved me. Am following Chris Scott WT when I get stuck and looking at other WTs also but am completely confused now.

Scott WT has me leaving Pulverizing room and going to Crystallization Lab then into Great Hall and he says to go outside. Well, all the doors are locked in the Great Hall and Frankenstein proceeds to shoot our hero. So there is no way this WT can be correct following this direction.

Another WT has me going to what they call the Melting Room instead of what Scott calls the Crys. Room. However, none of the directions that this other WT gives for this room coincides with the room I am in.

Am so mixed up now as to what this room really is and what to do next. Have run out of WTs to research unless you have some I have missed. Any ideas/hints/suggestion?

Hi ya', Lilac.....Yuppers, I sure did know what you meant. I was locked in the Great Hall of the castle for some time and became decidedly bullet-riddled myself!!!! wink

When Dr. Frankenstein insists on repeatedly finding and shooting you, it means you have missed something inside the castle. Believe me, I know how confusing it is to try to figure out what you missed when comparing several walkthroughs, but that's the only way I finally figured out what I'd missed. I just chose and read through them one at a time until I found something I had not done inside the castle. Then I went and did it (like using the crow bar on the boarded up door in the inside the walls maze). I finally found the missing link and was able to get out of the castle and on with the game.
