I'm playing the remake version.

I've been climbing the beanstalk for about an hour now, and I keep falling off! Can't have a future king all black and blue. frown I've clicked almost every pixel around me and just can't find the next safe spot. Any hints? Is it just more perserverence? I'm not quite ready for a saved game, but sure would like some encouragement.

Hi Row,

I've checked 3 walkthroughs and the constant warning is 'save your game' - one even stated -'CLIMB the beanstalk, and prepare to fall (and die) every two seconds. (Hint: SAVE your game!)'.

So persevere and be patient.

you can do it!

this is a very tough part, and some people complained that it was so hard in the remake because it made the game less fun. truth is, the original sierra games were FULL of stuff like this... i guess when there were such limits on what they could do with the graphics and the story, they had to include something that made the game a challenge!

i got through it by saving every time graham advanced a pixel. it might also help to slow down the speed of your game, so you can "catch" him if he starts to go off the beanstalk.

good luck!

It also makes it harder to move him in the remake because you're using the mouse. In the original you used the keyboard arrows to move Graham around. It's much easier to position him using the arrow keys than the walking icon.

I'm also playing it right now and fell out of the tree with the golden egg so many times both Graham and I had a headache. I finally managed to get him up to the branch but it was a pain - literally (and we took the short way down) laugh

Dark Side : Risen
Light Side:

I can only please one person a day. Today isn't your day. Tomorrow's not looking good either.

I am still flattening all the flowers at the bottom of the beanstalk. frown

Fov, what did you mean by "catching" Graham before he falls?

Syd, have you gotten to the beanstalk part yet? When you get there, maybe we can both push Graham up to the top. When I climbed the tree for the golden egg, I found that if I put my foot in the darker shaded part on the right of the limb (it looks like a shadowy groove), I was able to get to the egg with no difficulty. I took the fast elevator down. too, Syd.

Tada!! I just did it. smile I kept the entire cursor on the beanstalk, not just his feet, and that did the trick.

However, all that red stuff at the bottom of the beanstalk is my blood. I need a transfusion. <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

Hope you amused yourself, MaG. laugh While you did math, I learned a lot about gravity. I'm sure you ran out of fingers and toes. laugh I'm very glad to be past that spot.

glynn, you don't need to download the music and speech, but they add a lot to the experience. i recommend downloading them if you have the bandwidth / patience. smile

rowan, all i meant by "catching" was that my experience has been, when the speed is high, the character starts moving and you see that he's about to fall off the beanstalk but don't have a chance to stop him before he falls off. slowing down the speed can help here. (i had this experience coming down from cloudland... not on the beanstalk, though! don't want to give anything away...)

glad you finally made it up!
