As Mag reports in older systems they would be in C: program files. Newer versions of Windows will not allow any program to write to a file in the Program Files section of the hard drive. Because of that even old games where that was the destination designed into the install file Windows redirects saves to that monstrosity known as My Documents. The problem is there are multiple locations under several sub folders where it could have been placed.
I have the Gog version installed but that won't help you. But saves from other versions such as the CD are compatible with the Gog release. That means the save format is the same. You should be able to find them by using Windows Search located by clicking the Start button, bottom left of your screen. TLJ names its saves as follows, Save01.TGA Typing .tga in the search may locate where saves were placed. I have to warn you search could not locate my saves even though I drew a path to its location.
Start looking in Users/your pc name/mydocuments/appdata/ Or application data.
They could be anywhere in that mess. There is no rhyme or reason where windows buries these things. It simply becomes a treasure hunt For instance the gog version is located at,
Username/application data/the longest journey.
Happy hunting it could be buried anywhere in that maze. Often it becomes a greater quest to locate the saves than what is required to play the game. Most game puzzles are easier than this debacle.
