I seem to be unable to install Tesla Effect, I downloaded it from GOG along with the patch and then attempted to install the game. First of all it takes absolutely ages to get through the installation, the progress bar is so very slow it takes a couple of hours maybe?! Did anyone else find this? Then, right near the end of the install process, an error message suddenly appears, saying error with a .ini file that can't be found. I got on to GOG who gave me various instructions, try installing it on a clean boot which I did, didn't make any difference, making sure I was installing as administrator which didn't make any difference. They asked me to send a screenshot of the error message which I did, then they suggested I was trying to install the game over a previous installation, to delete it all and start again. I tried that and got the same error message. My laptop does not get on with this game and won't even let it install! Not sure what to do now, I sent another message to GOG saying that it is still giving the same error but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone else had such a problem? think

It sounds like one of the bin files may be corrupt, try downloading a new set and reinstalling the game. Excluding the patch, this is the content (including the size) of my install folder.

Code:

Hi InlandAz, Thanks for the advice, I am not sure where to find the bin files but I did delete the whole game and reinstall it more than once?

If you downloaded the game from GOG you will find the files listed above in whatever location you specified when you downloaded them. Those are the files required to install the game.

See if you can locate them and verify their sizes. If they're different, you'll need to download them again. Uninstalling and reinstalling will not correct a bad bin file.

If you go to your Tesla Effect download page on GOG and set your GOG downloader to off, you will then see eleven separate parts to the download (along with the patch at the bottom); those are your bin files.

I checked my files against yours and they are not the same size, what does that mean? I don't really understand what's happened here, I will try disabling my anti virus but that's about as much as I can do now! I will have to ask GOG for a refund if I can't get any further with it :(

If they are smaller, that means the downloads cut off before they were finished downloading. If they are larger, it means they were corrupted in some other way.

If they are very close in size in MB, check the size in bytes (small b) and see if the bytes match.

If your downloads are breaking off before they are complete, it's probably a problem with your ISP.
AT&T U-Verse is terrible about breaking off my downloads -- some days anything larger than 200KB will be broken off.

If your anti-virus were responsible, I don't think you'd be able to download anything at all.

That's very close.
Right-click the file and choose "Properties" from the menu.
On the General tab, check the "Size" in bytes.
See if it matches the size of the same file in Inland's post above.

(The listing for "Size on disk" will be there too, and will probably be larger than "Size")

I also have several files that are 1,529,297 KB but when I right-click them as described above, I see they are 1,566,000,000 bytes which is what Inland listed.

I've made big progress - I downloaded the bin files without the GOG downloader, then installed them and it was much much faster, and the next time I checked it was saying the game had installed successfully! So it must have been a problem with the downloader, I've never had that before! I will see if the game runs OK now but thanks everyone in the meantime smile

And thanks Jenny100 for the tip on checking the size of the bin files - I checked properties and they were the correct size, so it looks like the files were fine and uncorrupted, it was down to the GOG downloader having problems with them ...
