I am stuck in the Stoneship age, trying to find a 'recessed plate' on the landing above Sirrus' room.
I have aligned the telescope at 135 deg on the flashing lighthouse, and returned to Sirrus' room, but cannot find any plate on any wall anywhere - I can't even find a landing.Lights are on, of course.

Any help would be appreciated

If you are where I think you are, there is a plate in the hallway leading to the room. It is VERY hard to see. I think as you face the room it is on the wall to your left.

You may not be able to see it at all unless you turn the settings on your monitor up to flood the place with light.

Thanks for the help. I finally found the plate,where you thought it was. It appeared to have a red symbol on it.

thumbsup This art stumped me massively when I played the game years ago. I actually bought the Myst cheat book at this point because I didn't know how to go online and get the solution for free!

I now have a problem with the railcar in the Selenitic(?) age. Having exited the spaceahip OK and finally tuned my ears to the different sounds so that I could enter the underground rail car building, I have got stuck in the railcar puzzle.
Are there any tips I can use to get to the end of the puzzle?
As sound seems to play an important part in this Age, I am trying to find a thread using sounds - I get one of four sounds at the end of each section, a silence, a sound like a cracked bell, a bell, or a sort of vibrating bell. What is the secret, the Cunning Plan? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Help.

If you go HERE you'll find drawings and info on almost all aspects of MYST. Can be a heck of a spoiler, though, so be warned!! laugh

Petert,
The individual sounds stand for the cardinal compass points N,S,E,W. A combination of sounds is a point inbetween (SE, NW, etc.). If you went to the Mechanical Age, you would have found a machine that demonstrated this.

Edit: I can give you a description of each sound and its compass equivalent or just directions for getting out. I'm sure Billy Bob has the same information. Do you want the blatant solution or a nudge?

Lady K.

MYST was the first game I played, years ago. I didn't know about WT's and although I discovered sounds to be important in some parts of the game did not realize they might be important in this particular part of the game. So I didn't pay any attention to the sounds; I just mapped all the tracks possible until I came to the final conclusion.

I tend to do a lot of things the "hard way", it seems. laugh

Obliging nudge coming up.

These sounds indicate the following directions:

ding = north
chhhh = east
bonk (dull metallic sound) = south
breeet = west

Combinations are the degrees inbetween, so ding-chhhh is northeast, bonk-breeet is southwest, etc.

I hope this helps. Failing that, you can use the cheat the first time and then do it the other way the second time through. (Yes, you have to do it TWICE!) laugh

Having criss-crossed the tunnel complex for about 3 days now, and with a variety of (to me) entirely unconnected noises ringing in my ears, I had finally to fall back on BillyBob's spoiler/LadyK's blatant nudge in order to escape from the tunnels. Perhaps when I have been to the Mechanical Age, it will all make slightly more sense to me, though I shan't bet on it.

Thanks for the help.

KittyKatt,
There's a lot under the Myst sun. laugh Have you powered up the spaceship yet? Are you working on the music puzzle? If so, and you are having trouble matching the tones, there is a great diagram to use. I don't have the link for it, but I believe MaG does.

Oh, and you might want to start your own thread for your gameplay. I wouldn't want to put spoilers in this thread if Petert hasn't gotten to your spot yet. Also, it can get confusing when giving directions. <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

Petert,
I forgot to mention that when you hear one of the sounds, you should go in that direction until you stop and hear another.

Billy Bob,
Don't feel bad. I had a hard time hearing the differences in the sounds until I played RealMyst on my G4 iMac. The speakers are absolutely wonderful, and I remember saying, "Aha! That's what I was missing!" I don't know if it was the machine or the reengineered game, but everything came across very clearly.

KittyKat says: "Hey guys I need help, I playing RealMyst right now and have tried everything under the sun to try to get to The Selenitic Age, but I just can't. Does anyone have any saved games out there that I can use. I know that's kinda cheating, but I'm desperate. So if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks and Shorah smile "

I moved this to the Hints forum, KittyKat--I looked through my stash of games, and found my copy of RealMyst. If you want to send me a save where you are stuck, I'll see if I can get that organ working...

I'm having problems again with Myst.(Not sure if I should start a new thread or not?)

With the help of LadyK and BillyBob, I have reached the Mechanical Age, but cannot find how to rotate the pesky island. I have found a simulator, and explored the rest of the island - there seems to be a locked cage in the basement with a marker switch on the side, which is inoperative. There is a brief flash of light when I touch it but nothing happens of any help to me.

There is also a chess board in one of the rooms which I can zoom in on, but again it is of no help, as I cannot open it.

Another irritant is that I cannot seem to save my game at the point where I stop. When I do save, and then subsequently restore, I go back to the start of the particular Age that I am in, and have to repeat what I did in that Age. Especially irritating in the railcar tunnels, that was.

A hint on these would be appreciated.

Having practiced with the simulator you now need to learn about the use of the three symbols on the elevator controls in the elevator. You can forget the other two thngs. laugh

Thanks, BillyBob.
Whoever heard of an elevator with a pause/timer button?

Any advice on the save query?

I didn't experience any problems with saves. Is it a picture save system? If so, you may have run out of room and have to overwrite another save. Are you doing "Save As" rather than "Save" and giving each save a title?

Yep, took me awhile figure out why that thing stopped between floors. laugh

As to your save problem.......I don't recall any problems with MYST in that regard although many games won't allow you to save while in the middle of a puzzle/maze. Still, shouldn't always have to go back to the beginning when accessing a save. Maybe LadyKestrel has the answer there. laugh

Yes, I am doing 'Save As'.

I'll try and see if I can find a way around the difficulty by deleting/overwriting some of the other saves that I have and don't need any more.

If you count the lowest position of each slider as #1, the settings from left to right are: 8, 20, 23, 13, and 6.
