I have just downloaded real myst (an awful pain, as GOG were most unhelpful, ignoring all of my requests for help but I eventually managed to load the game) and find that, for some strange reason the scene gets progressively darker as I progress.
Mind you, I haven't got very far yet.
Is there a reason for this - perhaps I have clicked on something which activated the start of the gloom while I was stumbling about in the dark?

Not being familiar with this game, it's hard to tell whether what you describe is a technical problem (maybe something in your game settings could be changed?) or something to do with the game itself. If you want me to move your post over to Glitches, though, let me know.

Real Myst is suppose to get dark and then light again. You can look up and see the stars.

Petert when it does get daylight save your game so you can continue in the light. Don't forget you do have a flashlight you can click on in the menu screen so you can see better in the dark. Have you tried that?

Progress is being made, but only haltingly.
I last played Myst about 12 years ago and my memory is not so retentive as it used to be.

I have had to resort to an old W/T because of this, and the first real problem I have met is that, when I climb the tower and ascend the ladder marked with the key, I don't see any plaques - only a '59 volts' plaque. I am assuming that this must refer to the required tower rotation, when I get there.
Is Real Myst the same as the old W/T that I am using as far as these plaques are concerned?

Haven't yet managed to find the flashlight yet, but I'll keep looking.

Hi Petert,
There are a few differences between the Original Myst and Real Myst. I would suggest that you should refer to an actual REAL MYST walkthrough in order to get through the game. I've played Real Myst about a "zillion" times, and I never tire of it. I am assuming that in Rel Myst, you are aware that there is an additional "age" known as the RIME age which is not in the original MYST. Happy Gaming!

petert, to see the different plaques, you must indeed rotate the tower to one place and then go see the proper plaque.

Do the rotations all in one sequence and hold on to the info you get from those plaques.

As for the flashlight, you will have the possibility to use it if you are playing the Real Myst Masterpiece Edition as an option the game offers, not in something you find.

The flashlight may also be in the game Real Myst (not Masterpiece), but I do not remember that.

Have fun.

Hi Chief,
The flashlight does NOT exist in the original version of Real Myst. Happy Gaming!

Having managed to get a few more brain cells to work - I must have at least 27 operating now - I have managed to get hold of the data from the plaques - I was not rotating the red line correctly.

I also managed to make the light slider operate, but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the light yet.

Progress at last.

Thanks for help to date. Please don't leave town just yet.

Halting progress is being made.
Tried using a W/T from GB and one for Real Myst, but neither of them is specific enough. I have battled through the tricky sound puzzles leading up to the train ride - the various coordinates given in the W/T (and also in the Real Myst one as well) are not correct, so I guess that the reissue of the game by GOG has changed all of the individual settings.
The question arises then, is the directional information from the W/T for the rail car also changed?
I recall having enormous difficulty with this passage in my earlier foray into Myst, and would like to know for certain if this directional information has also been changed. If indeed it has, a long fiddly task awaits me.
Has anyone any information on this score?

petert, yes, the coordinates from the sound puzzles can be a bit different.

But, the directional information for the rail car is the same.

Here is a link, maybe different from the one you are using. Just stroll down the page to see the proper info.

EDIT: Here is another WT that can be of help for the info you are looking for.

Hi Petert,
Some of the "coordinates" in REAL MYST are different than the ones in MYST. The gameplay itself is the same, except for the addition of the RIME Age in REAL MYST. You really need a walkthrough that is specific to REAL MYST in order to get through the game. I have the original boxed game of Real Myst, not the downloaded GOG version that you have. I would imagine that the gameplay for BOTH versions would be exactly the same. I play this game at least once every year, and that's a LOT of years. ENJOY!
Sandy
