Hi Guys.
I tried to work out my problems without contacting you, but to no avail.
I am playing 'The Longest Journey' which I purchased from GOG and I have a problem getting into the Police Station.
Every time I try the game crashes, I have tried various compatibility settings but none work satisfactorily.
I have been informed that if I 'move barrier from road and get into the garbage container' it will skip that scene, if this is right can someone please tell me how to do it.

I appreciate your help, I couldn't speak to the cop as the game crashes as soon as I get to the top of the stairs, so I missed that bit out and went back to the street and read the signs.
Having done that I managed to get into the police station and at that point I have left the game and will carry on with it tomorrow.

I hope you can successfully carry on with the game now. The other advice that I am reading is to make sure you have done everything you need to do in the police station before you leave the police station.
