Does anyone know where I can obtain a clean download copy of Gabriel Knight 3? I tried GOG.com but even with their downloader, I cannot find a copy of the game. I paid $5.99 for the game there and went to their support page, but no luck.

Have you logged in to GOG.com ?

Once you have paid for the game it should "pop up" in your account under "My Games".

Should not be any problem sherlock

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. What I mean is altho I used the GOG downloader and it supposedly downloaded the game to my computer, the file folder for this game is empty. I tried redownload but it still is missing.

I have no idea what it never got put in there.

I'm sure it will have downloaded, Kootsie, but you just haven't found it.

If you go to the Glitches Board and say which version of Windows you are using, someone will probably be able to help you quickly locate it smile

I am using Windows 7. Searching my computer produces no results to a possible location.

Any ideas?

Well it should be quicker to just

use the "search" option on your computer and search for "Gabriel Knight" then everything connected to that will show.

Since you have Win 7 It should be in the folder "dowloaded files" located under "Favourites" were you also can see "computer" and "library" and others.

My downloaded GOG games end up in My Documents, in a GOG.com downloads folder; that is where I find the downloaded game and run the install.

I'll move you to Glitches where they can help you find the one on your computer.

Yep Marian...but the downloads folder for this game is empty. I've re-downloaded several times all with the same result. I have downloaded other games from GOG and this is the first time it has not been successful.

Is it possible your antivirus is deleting it?
Some antivirus are really aggressive at blocking or deleting any .exe files.

Try downloading the file with your web browser instead of using the GOG downloader. But first, check where your web browser is configured to download -- the Downloads folder is the default for Windows 7, but you may want to check that you didn't configure your web browser to download files to somewhere else. This shouldn't affect where the GOG downloader would download, but by downloading directly you can see where the file is going -- and whether it is blocked from the beginning or erased as soon as it is downloaded.

Thanks Jenny\

Using the Windows installer worked for downloading the game. However, now the game is asking me to insert Disk 1. LOL...

GOG tells me this is rare and I should now get a zipped file that will allow me to bypass the disk request.

New problem is finding this zipped archive. Ack..too much trouble.

Thanks to my GB friends for all the help. I may work on this again later.

Not sure what you mean about the Windows installer, but if your web browser gave you a choice of "Run" or saving to your hard drive, save to your hard drive. Always save large files to your hard drive before trying to run them.

If an installer from a downloaded game asks for the second disc, it means you have an incomplete download.

It might be the fault of your ISP. Occasionally my ISP (AT&T) will break off my downloads far short of what they should be. For example I'll only get around 250 MB of a 1.5 GB download. You may be having a similar problem. You'd be able to tell if you downloaded the file to your hard drive without running it -- it would be the wrong size.

The windows installer option is from GOG.com as a download choice. It is completely downloaded.

The problem is that the version from GOG includes the requirement to insert the game disks. There is a workaround so I will try that later.

Thanks Jenny.

What "workaround?"
Are you talking about this?

The game launched with no problems after this.

No, Jenny...GOG provided a zip file to download that contained a solution. I used that.

Kootsie,
Your question about whether there will be a GK4 has been moved to the Discussion forum.
