I am trying to replay the Myst game, actually the Real Myst version, but am having a problem with the first puzzle inside the spaceship, the one which requires the setting up of musical notes in accordance with the 5 notes given.
I think I have set up the five required notes and when I pull the handle down the 5 notes light up in sequence, but nothing happens on the screen.
I have tried clicking on the screen after the notes have played, then leaving the screen and then going back and trying again, but nothing seems to work.

Am I missing something obvious?

That usually means you have one or more notes wrong.
When you get them right, the book that you link with should appear on the screen.

Check the book in the library to make sure that you're playing the notes in the right order.

Some people managed to solve the tone matching by recording the tone from the organ and replaying it at the console -- so they didn't have to remember the sound.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried to reset the notes on several occasions but have not succeeded. When I get the notes wrong, the lights do not light up when I operate the handle: each time I do get it right the five notes sound and light up in the correct order.
Very strange. My assumption has been that if I see the lights illuminating and hear the sounds, everything ought to be hunky dory.

Like Boxer in Animal Farm, I must try harder.

This puzzle is notorious.

Another way someone found to do it was to count up the steps instead of using the tones:
Quote:
If you're tone deaf, just count number of notes from the bottom. (8, 20, 23, 13, and 6, respectively, including the bottom as one)

That seems like a lot harder to me, but it's helped some people get past it.

Here's a YouTube of what's supposed to happen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbB3N1CHo9I

Around 7:10 is the start of the organ puzzle.

Around 10:50 is where he finishes entering the five tones and pulls the lever.

After that it shows how the book appears in the circular view screen.

Thank you.
I worked out that I did not have one note wrong - I had 5 notes wrong!

I was counting the number of clicks as 8, 20, 23 etc. I was thus one note high with every one.

All is now well.
