You're having this problem here at GB? It sounds like adware. Try running a full Malwarebytes scan (or SuperAntispyware, if you prefer that).

I just ran two scans it found some problems and deleted them but that didn't help.

You don't say which web browser you're using, but make sure you didn't mistakenly install a browser add-on.

http://www.dotfab.com/resources/how-to-r...efirefoxchrome/

You may also want to delete your browser cache, in case some sort of adware is hiding in there.

If you're using Chrome, read this -- some formerly safe Chrome extensions are now adware.

Just fixed this issue on a computer - the browser - IE in this case - had an adware addon installed.

Jenny, I'm getting a Very Poor "get the heck out of there" rating from WOT on the dotfab link.

Richard, you might try muddling through the long answer from the post with the same issue at Bleeping Computer. It has far more information than you need, but somewhere in it is how to manage add-ons and extensions in each of the browsers.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t...clicking-links/

I would also run a scan with CCleaner as sometimes these things use cookies.

Where do I find the browser cache.I'm using IE as my search. I ran a scan using my SuperAntispyware It picked up 54. I thought if it deleted them it would help but it didn't.

You're still using XP, right? You can't use anything above IE 8 - that browser is so old I'll have to look it up. Check all your add-ons and extensions there too. I think you just click on Tools and go from there, but I'll check.

Pretty good instructions here:

http://agsci.psu.edu/it/how-to/clear-internet-explorer-8-ie8-browsing-history-cache

And here for getting to your browser add-ons and extensions. I suspect this is where your problem is since none of the scans took care of it.

I downloaded AVG AntiVirus and it scanned my pc. It was running about a hour and removed MalSign.generic.459. Do you know what it is. The red is all gone.
Is AVG any good?

From a Google search, it seems to be an adware.
There are a lot of adwares that start with "MalSign.generic..."

Sounds like AVG got the culprit.

AVG is very good, Richard. Good riddance! What were you using before for anti-virus? Make sure you don't have two anti-virus programs running at the same time. Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware don't count.

I'm reading that Malsign.generic is a specific detection used by AVG to get rid of PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). Glad it got rid of it for you. I had a problem similar to Richard's a few years back and the unwanted program was in my Firefox extensions.

I'm running two now Avast antivirus and AVG antivirus. Is it okay to run them both at the same time? Thats funny how AVG got rid of the red and I didn't have to ask it to do it. Ha Ha

My understanding is that running Avast and AVG both on the same computer is not a good idea - it can cause conflicts/problems.

Ok I can shut one of them down, will keep running AVG. Thanks Marian. I've only got a 30 day free trial on AVG. Cost to much to have AVG,$50 for one year.

I would recommend uninstalling the antivirus that you don't wish to use. wave

I guess I can uninstall Avast antivirus and when my time ends on AVG reload Avast antivirus.

Yes, what Marian said. Do not shut down any other anti-virus programs - uninstall any other antivirus programs. There is a free version of AVG which I would recommend. You may be able to opt out of the paid version... not sure how that works.

The issue is when you have two real time scanners active at the same time as they can interfere with each other. This is especially a problem if one of them locks a file during scanning and the other one tries to scan the same file. The free version of Malwarebytes does not include a real time scanner, but the paid version does.

That's an important distinction, Collector; thank you for the reminder.

There isn't a SP2 or 3 for Windows 7. From what I've read, Microsoft isn't planning to issue either.

Hope you're becoming more familiar with Win 7 now, Richard. Personally, I prefer it to XP!

You are so right Rushes. I really don't like win 7. So many thing I can't do with 7 that I could do with xp. One good thing my other computer has xp and that's where it will stay. I can play all the old games on xp where I can't play on 7. I tried a few games from GOG to see if they would play but no luck.
