I just received a dell Dimension E520 with windows XP on it.
that I am thinking of trying to use for some of my older games. My HP computer's hard drive (I believe) died and I am wondering if I could take the GeForce 7600GT and the powersupply 350 that is in the HP and replace the GeForce 7300LE that is in the Dell computer and whatever power supply is there.
And it only has service pack 2 on it do I want to connect it to the internet long enough to update things

Check whether the HP is known to have a proprietary power supply.

the Dell E520 does not have a proprietary power supply, so you could buy a new power supply for it if the HP power supply won't fit. I don't know if the HP has a proprietary power supply or not.

Make sure both the Dell and the HP have the same type of video card slot though. The Dell has a PCI-Express slot.



If you're not going to use it on the Internet, there's not much to be gained by installing Service Pack 3 on it.

I don't know of any older games that require XP SP3 and which wouldn't work with XP SP2.

If you do want Service Pack 3, you can download the full version (not the "web install") on whatever computer you're currently using to connect to the Internet and transfer it to the Dell via USB.

If you have the model number of the HP, you can look up what type of slot it has online.

For the power supply, you may have to open the computers and look at the wattage. I think the Dell E520 usually comes with a 305 Watt power supply, but the previous owner may have upgraded it.

This is for the dell.. I put the graphics info in bold... as for the hp I upgraded it myself to the Geforce 7600GT and put in a 350 power supply when mine died when we moved.

According to a Google search for the Dell Dimension E520, it has a PCI-Express slot for video. That's all you need to know about the Dell. Just make sure the 7600 is for a PCI-E slot and not AGP slot or it won't fit in the Dell.

If you replaced the power supply in the HP yourself with a non-proprietary power supply, it should be OK for the Dell.

That's the important one -- modern video cards use PCI Express x16, not PCI.
The specs list "none available" because the computer came with a video card in the slot.
