I don't know if this affects other than United States residents, but here goes....This happened to us this morning, but we knew better so we didn't bite -

Why is My Number Calling Me? A Crazy New Scam.By Emily Patterson – June 23, 2014 Posted in: Computers-Internet-Technology, National, Phishing, Security inShare8 Scammers are using caller ID spoofing technology to impersonate the phone numbers of local businesses, neighbors and even you! Watch out for this wacky twist on the classic phishing phone scam. How the Scam Works: Your phone rings, and you look at the caller ID. You recognize the number. It may be from a local business or a neighbor down the street. But in strange twist, you might even see your own name and phone number on the caller ID screen. You answer the phone, and it’s a robo call. Victims have reported several different phishing scams. In one common version, a recording prompts you to verify your credit card number under the guise of lowering your interest rates. With many people rejecting calls from unfamiliar numbers, scammers are increasingly posing as familiar businesses, government organizations or people. Scammers purchase lists of phone numbers and use spoofing technology to trick potential victims into picking up the phone. Posing as your own phone number is great for shock value and for ensuring the number isn’t blocked. What to do is a scammer calls: Hang up, don’t press any buttons and, if you received a voice mail message, don’t call the scammer back. We all like to have the last word, but returning the phone call may just give the con artist information he can use. Don’t trust Caller ID. Scammers have technology that lets them display any number or organization name on your screen. Never give out any financial information. If you did not initiate the call, do not provide bank account, credit card or Social Security numbers over the phone unless you have thoroughly done your research and verified the caller. - See more at: http://www.bbb.org/blog/2014/06/why-is-m...O.LdCXu2gy.dpuf

Not new at all - I've been getting spam calls from "myself" for a couple of years now. Don't even answer if it's not a number I recognize. If it's someone who really wants to talk to me, that's why we have answering machines!

But I'm sure there are some who have never gotten one of these, so it's a great idea to post it.

Do be careful of any robo call purporting to be the IRS also. If they want to contact you, it won't be with a robo-call threatening to arrest you, and they will use your actual name and already know your details!

I get those calls all the time. They seem to happen all on one day and then nothing for several days. I don't have caller ID but can look up who called on my computer afterwards. The latest one was once again, a heavily accented male, he wanted to know if I had a home security system! I always say yes. Who knows who it is and if they could be looking for unguarded homes. Then he wanted to know if I lived in a 'complex'. Huh? I am guessing he had my address(s) from the local tax records which lists all 3 of my homes on the lot. So he had info on me already. I told him I saw no reason to tell him where I lived and didn't need a security system (even if he did say it was FREE). Sure. I'm sure next would have been more 'identifying' questions. Have no idea what this scam was, but others say it's a health insurance or life insurance scam. Weird. And they all said if you get 'snippy' with him, he will call back or say foul things to you. Sigh.

Thanks for the heads up though. I hate these callers. I'll let my neighbor know since she screens calls by the phone number and would probably answer if it looked like someone she knew. Geez.

WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.
