I haven't seen a new book thread in awhile so I thought I'd start one.

I generally do not have much time to read, but while recuperating from surgery I had read a wonderful release of a new series called McCormick Files and I am now eagerly awaiting the next one.

Since we have so many avid readers here I thought I'd share my find.

The author is Lisa Brunette and the book is called Cat in the Flock; it is Book 1 of the McCormick Files. It is available on kindle here. It's an easy read, and the lead character has a unique talent which pulled me right in. The reviews are great too!

An interesting tidbit for casual gamers regarding the author, which is actually how I discovered her:
Quote:
She's the writer behind hundreds of bestselling computer games published by Big Fish, such as the Final Cut, Mystery Case Files, Mystery Trackers, Dark Tales, Myths of the World, and Off the Record series.

What are you reading?

My latest 'read' (audio book) is Stephen King's The Talisman. Very interesting. Slow moving story but it keeps you waiting for the 'shoe to drop' and finally wrap up what the whole thing has been about. Only 8 more discs to go out of 24. Whew.

Skyrim, Ultimate Game Guide. It's massive and it weighs a ton. After playing the game for over a year and racking up hundreds of hours in the process, I figured it would be useful to see what I've missed and learn more about everything in preparation for my third playthrough. The depth of information this book carries is incredible. smile

Charles Palliser’s “The Quincunx” is one of the best books I have read in years! If you like adventure games, you will LOVE this!....puzzles upon puzzles, mystery etc.!

Had this series for awhile but just getting around to reading them: Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series. Sorta Blond; when you finish the Talisman, you should get "Black House" which is the sequel, it's fantastic.

Rescuing Riley, Saving Myself

I recently finished this amazing book by Zachary Anderegg. It is the true story of a young man who rescues a dog from an almost impossible situation in a slot canyon. The dog is near death and he is fighting time to get him out. The struggle to save the dog begins to pull him into his struggles to save himself from a childhood of bullying and misery.

I had seen the story of the rescue of the dog on Facebook and just had to read the rest of the story. It's a painful look at the effects that bullying can have on someone for their rest of their lives. But the book ends on a note of hope and happiness.

Oh thanks judith! Had no idea there was a sequel. Hope it doesn't have 24 discs like this one. I'll be on the lookout for it.

I just started rereading The Shell Seekers, by Rosamunde Pilcher. I have several of her books but this is my favorite. It is a story of one family over 3 generation. Wonderful story and a great read.

I am reading James Patterson's The Postcard Killings on Kindle Fire. Drac, that book sounds like one I would really like to read.

I wonder if I can "lend" it to you on the Kindle. That's where I do all my reading - well, I do it on my Surface tablet in the Kindle app. Let me check.

EDIT: Nope, the author does not allow lending on this book.

While on my Kindle books page, I saw another series that I can't get enough of. The first book is "The Oldest Living Vampire Tells All" by Joseph Duncan. “My legal name where I currently reside in the city of Liege, Belgium, in the year 2010 A.D., is Gaspar Valessi, but that is not my real name. The name I was given some 30,000 years ago, when I was born in a Paleolithic settlement in the region that is now called Germany-- the name my father gave me shortly after I was voided, bloody and howling, from my mother's womb-- is Gon.”
