I can't be the only one that's downloading software from the internet and picked up some virus. I've been scanning for virus every day. So far everything is good. Haven't downloaded anything yet. Thanks Jenny.

That's right - IE especially blocks all downloads and you have to approve them. I thought you said you had uninstalled Firefox? I'm also suspicious that you have malware lurking somewhere too. It's really not normal to be that badly infected so quickly. Of course, just one bad download can do it. Especially if you got Firefox from a site other than Mozilla. It's available at CNET and they have become one of the absolute worst for including adware and spyware in their downloads.

I downloaded Fire Fox from the web site that Jenny gave me. Worked out real good. I'm using MSN.com most of the time.
I never use IE at all. There is no spyware at all on my PC. I'm glad. thanks
Richard

YAY! That was the right place to get it. But unless you change the security settings, it's always going to prompt you about downloads. I am glad to know you can get WOT from Firefox though... thanks, Jenny, I didn't know that. That's a very handy little add-on to help you know whether a website is going to be a problem or not.

That SUPERAantivirus Professional is a great one to have it gets some where the other ones missed. Once a week I scan my pc. Found a lot of cookies I know they don.t hurt my computer much I know I need some of them.
What is SKYPE when I start up my computer it pop up. It's annoying. I have no idea what it is. Another one that keeps coming up A lot of the time is Windows Live Messenger(offline)
Another question I installed a few games from a disk and I got this message(missing .dll) Is it really missing from my PC.

hi kjos,

One more thing I would like to add, earlier on you said you use both "avast Free Antivirus and AVG 2015." Do Not use 2 Anti-Virus systems at the same time since they will conflict with each other, if it were me, I would use the AVG 2015 uninstaller and keep Avast, Avast is a very good Anti-Virus software and uses less resources than AVG, but wait for opinions from other users on this one..

umm, I am not quite sure what you mean by that? Are you saying that these 2 A/Vs are not Active? Or are you saying that these 2 A/Vs are Active and you only do a Scan every 2nd day? If Not active then this could be what is causing your problems, One of them Must be Active (running at All times)... Please elaborate.

Free versions of both AVG and Avast will have real-time scanning turned on by default. This is in addition to any manual scans you may run with them. So unless you configured either AVG or Avast not to use real-time scanning, you have two antivirus doing real-time scanning at the same time.

How can I disable either one so only one can run at a time. I know the AVG is running all the time.

So Far, So Good kjos, But I would go as far as to Uninstall AVG and Keep Avast for awhile and give it a try, I would strongly suggest that You Not Flip flop between A/Vs, this is not good and you will never know which works for you.

I agree with Starcom. You should never have more than one antivirus on your computer at the same time. I just worked on a computer last week which was crawling along. Somehow a free version of a second antivirus program had gotten installed. It was not supposed to be running in real time, but for some reason, it was still slowing things down like mad. Pick one or the other and uninstall the other one. I'd also suggest trying Avast first. If you don't like it, uninstall it and redownload AVG. I assume neither one of these are paid versions??

You mentioned Live Messenger and Skype popping up. Skype is software that allows you to "call" other people who also have Skype and talk to them with live video on your screen. This requires a computer video cam. Live Messenger is a part of Microsoft which has been discontinued in favor of Skype after Microsoft bought Skype. You should be able to uninstall both of these programs in the Uninstall a Program part of Control Panel.

I can't answer your question about the missing dll issue. Maybe some else will know.

I would put a second hard drive in the computer. That way you can copy all your downloads and documents to that drive. On my computer I have 4 hard drives. 1 for the operating system ,1 for backups , 1 for documents and 1 for game downloads. That way when I want to do a format of my C drive I don't loose any important files. You can also export your favorites from your browser to a file on your hard drive and then copy it to 1 of your other hard drives so you wont loose your favorites if you format. I recommend that you format and reinstall windows 7. That way you know that all your problems with malware and viruses will be gone. There is no way to be sure that the security programs that you are using removed all the bad stuff. Formatting and reinstalling takes a lot of time but then you will know that your computer will be safe to use for banking and online credit card use. Once you reinstall I wound buy the Acronis True Image program that I put the link to in my prev post and then make a hard drive image and store it on either a second internal drive Like I do or an external drive. I keep multiple disk images on my backup drive. 1 for clean install. 1 for after I install all the basic software I need. 1 After I install my anti virus software and 1 that I update when I install a new game. that way when I want to do a format and reinstall all I have to do is restore 1 of the images that I made. That way I can experiment with new hardware, software or anti virus software and restore the changes quickly.

If you uninstall Skype, Live Messenger may go away too. But if it didn't, you might just look for Windows Live and uninstall that... it's separate download from Microsoft that your builder must have installed. Unless you are using Windows Live Mail for your email, then you might not want to do that.

Good, then you shouldn't be bothered by them any more! Don't forget to email me if you EVER have any doubts about things like a download.
