I lost my Game Boomers icon on my desktop how do I get it back. I have to go on the internet to read all the postings. I don't know what happened. I need it back. Thank you.

Just drag the little icon that is to the left of the address onto your desktop.

BTW you are still going to the internet whether you do it from a desktop shortcut or your browser icon. The shortcut just invokes your browser. 6 and two 3s :-)

I did that and I still don't get a icon that I'm showing now. I never had to go to the internet before. I just clicked on the icon I had on my desktop and I went right to the game boomers website.

When you clicked on your browser address icon, you were being taken to the internet as mj2c says. What you're doing now is using your browser to go to the internet instead of the browser address icon.

Look up at the address bar. It should say something like gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads/php followed by a bunch of other stuff. In my Firefox, there is a little earth looking round thing to the left of the address. If I make my Firefox window smaller so I can see my desktop, I can click on that little earth looking thingie and drag it to the desktop. Now I have a browser address shortcut icon on my desktop.

Open IE to the webpage you want the desktop for.
Right-click somewhere on the webpage where there is no link, and choose "Shortcut" from the context menu.
It should prompt if you want the shortcut on your desktop.

I was just going to suggest Richard use IE to put his icon back on the desktop. Firefox does not work nearly as well.

I just want to have the whole Game Boomers icon back on my desktop. Just so when I click on the icon I go right to my GB not do a bunch of clicking around. When I first got my win 7 I did it but I don't remember how I did it. I tried IE and it doesn't work at all. Thanks
Richard

kjos - exactly to the right of your post above (outside of the yellow and gray outlines), can't you right click and access the "create shortcut" option?

Unless your antivirus is automatically deleting active links from your desktop, I don't know why it isn't working for you.

Here's how to create a new desktop link to a webpage using IE
http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Shortcut...rnet-Explorer-9

http://www.wikihow.com/Put-a-Website-on-Your-Desktop

Here's how to create a new desktop link to a webpage using Firefox
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website

Another way of doing it is to copy the entire webpage to your hard drive (for example, to somewhere in your My Documents folder), then create a link to that copy. The links in the copied webpage should still work to access the Internet.

If you have gameboomers saved as a bookmark, you can drag the icon from there to you desktop, I just did this in Firefox to see if it work and it did. Just make sure you are in windowed mode so there is some desktop showing.

Where do I find my bookmark. I saved it to my bookmark but I don't know where it is. I'm using FireFox to access my boomers web site. I have it pined to the bottom. I tried to put it on my desktop but I get something else that I don't want. I used the little ball next to the arrow at the left side. I don't get the full Game Boomers web page.

In Firefox - assuming you do not have the Menu bar showing - just click on the small icon over on the right that sort of looks like a clipboard - it should be next to the star. To activate your Menu bar, just right click anywhere in the blank space at the very top of your screen next to the tabs. You should get a drop down menu where you can put a check mark next to the Menu bar.

Go to the *exact* Gameboomers page you want. Drag the little 'world' icon at the left of the address. Drag it to you desktop. It *will* take you to that page of the website when you double click it.

If you are still struggling then download TeamViewer and one of us can do it for you.

Download and install. Teamviewer is a program that allows someone to connect to your comp (you give them the user ID and Pass Number) and they will be able to sort you out. The password will change every time you run it so no-one will have permanent access to your machine.

Ok heres what you should do. Go to the page you want in firefox. I will connect and create the shortcut. We will test it works then I will disconnect. You may get a message from TeamViewer asking you to recommend/Like or whatever it is. Just press cancel for that. Ok?

I would recommend one of the mods removes your ID and pas now.

Messing with computers for years you pick these things up. You are very welcome:-)

If you arent going to use it again then just uninstall it. You can always reinstall it if you need it again.

ok will do. If I scan my computer will it hurt gameboomers web site. seems so good to have it back on my desktop. Wonder why I lost it. Another thing I went into my E-Mail and I didn't have to enter my password. I always had to enter it before. Seems good. You sure helped my PC.

Team Viewer is one of my #1 tools! I've use it many, many times - sometimes to do something like this and sometimes just to explain something to someone. You can even open up a chat box so you can type to each other.

What scan are you talking about?

A virus scan wont hurt it but something like CCleaner might clean your history/password stuff. Note, your passwords will still be stored in Firefox but the first time you load a site after using CCleaner (for ex Gameboomers) it might ask you to type it in again.

Unless you tell CCleaner to leave your Gameboomers cookie (or any other site) alone! Open up CCleaner, click on Options on the left and then cookies. Find your Gameboomers cookie and move it over to the right side. Now CCleaner will leave it alone.

Thanks you Draclvr will do. I think I did that awhile ago but I will check to make sure. I moved a few over to the right side and it's a good thing I looked Game Boomers was way down at the bottom along with a few WWW. moved it to the right. It had a www.before it. Thanks for telling me to check.

I wish I had never seen this post. I decided to put the GB shortcut on my desktop and I have no idea what I did but several of my other icons/shortcuts take me to GB. I was going to do a restore but my PC has no room for backups so I will have to go back to Sept 8. and will lose a lot of the new items. Any ideas how to fix the icon/shortcut situation?

You could copy the new items to a Flash drive and then use System Restore.
But if all your new items are in your Documents folder, they shouldn't be affected.

No Jenny, I have some games I'd like to keep and really not sure what else. Do you have any idea what I might have clicked on to cause my problem? I just clicked on Bing and typed in my search and it came here to GB with the Bing tab behind the GB tab. What a fine mess I've gotten myself into!

You should have mj2c help you using Team Viewer. He sure helped me a lot. I didn't think it could be done.

I no longer care if I have GB on my desktop or not, I just want to get rid of the mess I made and put all back like it was. wave

Have you tried System Restore?

If you don't want to do that, why don't you delete all the shortcuts that aren't doing what you want and just reset them? I'm always about the simple way first!

Drac. If I do a system restore won't I lose a lot of things that I want to keep since I have not done a backup since Sept. 8?. That's what I originally was going to do when I realized my back up problem again.
I will try to remove the icons and hope I can replace them on the desktop, there are several of them.
Thanks.

Gee, it's a real mess. I have many icons and I mean many that take me to GB! I'm done..........I am so tired of making so many problems for myself, I just don't have the patience or temperament for this. smashpc
Thanks ever so much for trying to help!

Backing up has nothing to do with System Restore. System Restore makes Restore points periodically depending on your settings.

Ok group, I'm back. Decided to do a restore. It appears that not all things have changed. I must have set something and it won't correct it. Presently I am showing gameboomers with the World Weather Online tab behind after clicking on the world weather icon. If I click on GameBoomers in Bing I get gameboomers-Bing on the back tab with the b icon and GB on the front tab with red icon. I deleted some of the icons and now I can't get rid of GB, however I did delete that icon. Does anyone have a clue what I did?

Secondly, since I had not been able to do a recent backup I thought that meant that the restore would go back to the last backup, apparently I was incorrect!

Yes Drac. I realize that now. Thanks. I just thought they went hand in hand.
I think it might have been because on the Restore page it had the last back up date so I just assumed.

Today all seems well with my PC, the problem has been rectified. However I do have a question about something else but am going to wait another day or two....I'll give you a short break. wink
