It's a little early to ask for help but ..............help!

I've exhausted all the options I can think of in day one and can't progress. I'm missing something obvious I know but I can't figure it out. I used the built in hint system and have done everything that it says.

I made it to the crime scene.
Got the Snake Scale
drew the pattern in the book.
Got clay from the bank of the river.
Asked Grace to do Research.

Now every place I go I'm just repeating actions. I can't figure out what I've missed to get me to day 2.

So when players get to playing this game maybe someone can tell me what I've missed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Until another player comes along, the only other thing I can think of to suggest is to look at a walkthrough for the original game - maybe there would be something there to help you figure out what you might have missed?

Hi John and Marian,
I thought that I was missing something also, but this version of the game is different than the original version. Some things in "Day 1" don't occur until "Day 2". Day 1 in the new version ends with Gabriel asks Grace to "research" Malia Gedde. There is a very accurate video walkthrough that you can access by doing a search for "GK1 20TH ANNIVERARY EDITION WALKTHROUGH". This video WT is the only one that is available so far. HAPPY GAMING!

Very helpful information, Sandy - thank you! I was assuming that the "days" in the Anniversary version would be broken up the same way as in the original, so I appreciate your post.

You are very welcome, Marian.I have gotten through many a game because of the input of so many of our fellow Boomers. It feels good to be able to contribute something back. I especially want to thank Mag for being our "savior". She is awesome and I always say to myself: "What would I do without our Magnificent Mag?"
How many time have I wanted to fling my PC out the window, and Mag has come to the rescue. Of course, I must include YOU, Rushes, Jenny, Ana. Chief and others in this category as well. Sorry if I missed mentioning others in our community, but yow who you are. HAPPY GAMING!

I did a search as suggested and all I could find were trailers and reviews. If you could find that video walkthrough and post the url for it I would be greatly appreciative.

I found this one over a hour long. Just cut and paste.
Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition demo Walkthrough .
It is really long. I don't know how to use a URL. Might help.

Thank you kjos. I did things out of order and that's why I couldn't advance to day 2. I went back to a previous save and made sure that I asked Grace for the research last and I advanced to Day 2.

At first I followed the the old WT but it didn't seem right. Day 1 I went to the map and grandmothers house wasn't on the map. Maybe somebody will write a wt for the new game. That video was good. I got to day 2 and the game froze on me had to reboot. Will try again.

I have completed this game - and I don't think that WT is absolutely necessary. There is a built-in hint system there, not unlike the printed hint book for the original version.
Now, I only miss one score point (having 361 out of 362) - and the old walkthroughs are of no help here as the score was increased from 342 to 362...

Hi Richard,
I just started DAY 2. I don't know why your game is freezing so many times, but I would advise that you SAVE more often. That way you won't have to backtrack too far back. If you purchased the game from GOG, as I did, you might want to contact their SUPPORT team. They have always been very helpful to me when I had problems with one or more of their games.

Sandy,I got mine from steam and I just begun to save quite a few times. If I have two many saves I just delete them. I'm on day 3 and I'm kind of stuck. I was following a video WT for day 1 and 2. There isn't any for day 3.

I am unable to end Day 2. I saw the old lady speak with Willy early in the day at the drug store, but there is no option to ask Grace to research Madame Cazaunoux. According to the most recent video walkthrough, that ends day 2. Even though Grace mentioned the grandmother once, it seems to be too early to visit her, as there is no address or phone number for her. Do I have to go back to a much earlier save to ask Grace to research the old lady as soon as I've seen her in the drug store with her dog? When I click on research, there are no other things to research. So I'm a bit stuck. Any suggestions?

LadyCav,I watched the video again and did you talk to willy about the woman that was in the store among other things. I think you must of missed asking about her. If you asked about her than grace will research. I think this is the first Gabriel saw the woman so it wouldn't do any good to go back to another save. That's right at the end of day 2.

Richard, I must have missed asking Willy about her when she left the store with her dog. I've been to half a dozen locations since then but every time I come back to Willy, all I can ask about is buying the mask, which I do not yet have the money to buy. There is no option to ask Willy about her now. I've already been kicked out after talking to Ms. Geddes, been thru the cemetery and the artist is working on a project for me. I'm afraid I might have to go all the way back to the beginning of this day??

Hi, everyone!

I think my brain was working much better 21 years ago because I'm still on Day 1 and am stuck! In my inventory, I have the magnifying glass, hair gel, police photo, murder photo, gift certificate and sketch pad. Grace has nothing more to say and the only other locations I can visit are the church (where there is nothing to do) and the park. I've tried to get the mime to follow me so he can distract the cop but, just when I succeed, either the the man or the girl appear and he latches onto them. Grandma's house doesn't show up on my map, and I thought I visited her during Day 1 when I played all those years ago.

A nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Susan

Richard,
I just started DAY 3 (with the help of the video WT). I guess I just have to fumble my way through from here on. I hope your "freezing" problem has been solved. If not. did you try the STEAM SUPPORT team?

kjos, I never had any freezes. That's strange - maybe a problem with your hardware.

Susie07, you are on the right track! The mime is to distract the cop, but you must choose your way carefully, so that nobody would appear between you and the mime. A couple of tries and you would get him to the cop.

The three WT they have here I've been using hints. The first one. That one seems to work the best for me. I'm somewhere into day 3. I save quite often.
Just started day 4. Went to the map and saw Grandma Knight's House there so I had to go back to day 1 on the WT. It doesn't follow it very well.
Better than nothing.

Hi fellow Boomers,
I'm in Day 3. I have done everything I can think of, and I've been back to each place, and I've exhausted all talking points. I know that I have to get into "Madame Gazaunoux's house. I have the "Black shirt", the "priest's collar" and the "Hair Gel" Gabe is standing outside of the old lady's house and I'm trying to use all three of those items on Gabe, and I can't. I even went back to Gabe's bedroom in the bookstore, but still can't use those items on Gabe. What am I missing here?
I would appreciate some help on this. Thanks.
Sandy

Sanford, you have to combine the gel, shirt and collar in your inventory to make a priest disguise. Then use it to click on Gabriel. Make sure you go to the lecture before you visit the woman. Otherwise you can't ask her the right question and get the clay impression of her bracelet.

Thanks, Oldmariner,
I DID go to the lecture. How do I combine those items in the inventory? Haven't been able to figure that out. GOG did not provide a manual for this game.
Sandy

Somehow, I fiddled around with the inventory, cmbined the items, and had the conversation with the old lady. I have sold the painting for $100, but the guy in the Dixiland store wants $120 for the mask. How can I buy the mask if he won't accept the $100? I even went back to the bookstore and tried to get Gabe to take $20, but that didn't work. LOL I would appreciate your help on this. BTW, I'm in DAY 4 now.

Has anybody solved the Loa Machine puzzle at Madam Moonbeams on day 5?

This one has me pretty stumped.

sanford, there is no manual but there is some kind of tutorial (F1). There is a special button (the right one) to combine objects in the inventory.

oldman, the machine is very easy - just choose letters until one meaningful phrase (granting you permission) appears!

I'm just starting day five. The $20 puzzle is a new one not found in the original game. The answer is hidden in Gabe's journal click on the hints tab. Ok here is the trick---spoiler

Click to reveal..
Go to the cemetery and find the Wright tomb. upper left exit. Your will see six drawers. "Talk to each of them. A small animal runs around the corner kicking over the vase in closeup view find a $20 bill.

Yeah, I know it's pretty lame

Maybe easy for you but I can't figure out which button moves which letter. I know what it's supposed to read but getting the machine to move to the right letters?

oldman, that is difficult to tell. Just try and you will succeed smile Try each button - some of them moves several others, and some are moving only one letter. Do the first type first, and then fill the remaining single-moving letters.

On day 6 - what is the correct message to write on the wall of Marie Laveau's tomb in the cemetery??
I've tried all morning, but with 3 alphabet letters missing, I can't write
Click to reveal..
'sekey madoule' and writing 'coffin' does not work.
I've only placed one tracking device and still have one in inventory, in addition to the signal tracker. Am I supposed to place the second one somewhere first?

LadyCav, you would need the second tracking device later on day 10.
You are on the right track with the message - it is very easy to guess the three missing letters.

Need some help on day 6

I translated the drum code in the park. I already sent the message from the cemetery. The tatoo is painted on Gabe's chest. The Beignet stall is not in the park. According to the old version I was supposed to send it to the police station as a distraction to let me in Mosley's office. I have the key. At the cop shop I found additions to the version, car in front blood and a tire iron. Picked up the tire iron. Can't interact with the kids jumping rope or the drummer. How does one get into mosley's office to get the tracker?

oldmariner,

All I can tell you is what I did. I never saw a Beignet seller. I think this new version might differ somewhat.
Click to reveal..
I picked up the tire iron and went to the alley to the left of the kids jumping rope and the car, tried to open the window, heard Gabriel say that he needed a tool, and then used the tire iron on the window. These things I did after talking to the desk cop and being told there is no detective Mosley in the department anymore.

Thank you, that did it. I forgot about seeing the alley

I'm pretty dense but how did you figure out the missing letters?
Click to reveal..
Which is "s" and "M" and "U"

Oldman,

Looking through my very scribbled notes:

Click to reveal..
y = 2nd line, 2nd letter
m - very last character
o = 2nd line, 2nd from the right
u = 3rd line, 3rd from the right

S is already listed. You don't have to guess it. Hope this helps. smile

Cathy did you get the key for the clock. The dragon has to go on the top and set the clock at three o'clock. I haven't died yet.

Sorry
I don't have a key or a dragon. I might have put the dragon on before.
I did have the key and used it before.

The dragon is on the clock you just have to move it around until it's on the top. The key is in the trunk. you have to get the key and use it on the clock.

Hey Kejos

Did you make sure, and look at everything in your inventory ? ( Both eyeglass and eye ?) Try to combine everything, with everything. Click what you want to combine.
Did it say Day 5 so you know that you are in the next day.

I must be missing Both eyeglass and eye. I don't remember seeing them in my inventory. I didn't get out of day 4. There was no day 5.
I have MoomBeam Residence on the map but it's closed won't be back until June 22. If I get to day5 than I guess it will be open.

Richard, what all have you accomplished on day 4? Hard to tell what you are missing without knowing? Did you have all the interactions with "Crash" that you can? Did you acquire something special at the pub? Did you finally get to buy something at the drugstore?

Go talk to Gran again. I think the trigger is talking about the Ritter family history.

Private message - go to "My Place" at the top of the page, next to "Forum List" and check your private messages. I sent you a link that will help you.

I've been to Granny a lot of times and done asking questions. but will try it again. I talked to grandma and got a lot of answers and I finally make the phone call. He will send me something. The phone call is all it took to take me out of day4 started day 5.
I'm stuck on the carnival machine at moombeams house. What letters do I use using the bottom handles.

Kjos better late than never here. I went hiking today so no computer time. If you have not got an answer yet here it is. You have to spell out two words, Trusted Friend
As for the levers it is kind of hit or miss. Just keep pushing them eventually you will get the letters lined up. It took me several tries eventually got there. I'm in day 7 just landed in Germany. That is where I left it yesterday. May play more tomorrow it depends. After climbing a few thousand feet and resting on my five thousand three hundred foot perch soaking in the view this old guy is wiped. It was a great day and I'll do it again.

I thought you were on Day 5 now Richard ? Have you checked your hint book.
You can turn the pages in it and let the round level circles fill up,to get another clue.

I guess I'm on day 5 I forgot where I am now. Stall half asleep. The voodoo museum is closed so I can't go there. I think I've talked to everybody and looked at everything in my inventory. I'm missing something. Grace is no help I think I will hire a new secretary.

Richard, did you talk to Mosely and use the "reopen the case" dialogue with him, showing him everything you have? Did you get Moonbeam to dance for you and steal the snakeskin? Did you combine/compare snake scales in your inventory? If you revisited placess, have you tried to exhaust all dialogues? Did you go back to Tulane U. and check out what's on the desk? Did you read the journal and letter that Gunter sent to you? Did you ask Grace to check into Rada drums? Hard to guess what you might be missing.

I think I did everything but I will go back and do what you said. I showed Mosley the two snake scales and that's all it took to go to day 6.
Mosley reopened the case and gave me the key to his office. Trying to open Mosley window what do I need to open it? Got the tire wrench. Got the tracking device but where do I put it.

YAY! I finished the game. It was so awesome. The hardest part was to play the parts that are different than the original version. The "Hint System" really helped a lot. If anybody needs a hand with this game, I would be more than happy to help out. HAPPY GAMING, fellow Boomers.

BTW, having played GK1 again has inspired me to replay GK2 again. Won't be as "pretty" as GK1-20th anniversary, but that's ok.

[quote=kjos Iurii ,did you ever have the game freeze up on you. Mine did three times and I just got to day 3. I have to press ctrl, alt and del. I loose every thing I had.]

I had problems with it freezing up on me at first, but I lowered my settings to 1024x768 and the graphics from "fastest" to "simple" and that solved it. Have you tried that?

Richard,
You have to visit the "Moonbeam Residence" on the map, and talk to Moonbeam. The original walkthrough had that happening near the end of Day 2. The new version has this happening much later. BTW, I found that Day 8, Day 9, and Day 10 follows the story as in the "old" walkthrough. Hope this helps. Also, I found that the built=in HINT system is very helpful as well. ENJOY!

If you didn't show Moonbeam the documents in your journal when you were there (and before she left town), you might need to go back to an older save and play that part over again.

Richard, did Moonbeam do her "snake dance" for you? Did you get the "Snakeskin" from the cage? Did you give Moonbeam the "coded Voodoo message" so she could translate it for you? Did you combine the two similar "snake scales" in your inventory, and then look at them with the magnifying glass?

Richard, do you have the signal tracker from Mosely's office? If you use that, you can see it on the screen and the "beep" will guide you on the right path.

Richard, I don't remember if I used it on the middle of the screen or used it "on" Gabriel, so he can pick it up and use it, but you will see the tracker on the screen when you have it right. Then follow the beeps down several paths. You are using the large one, not the smaller one in your inventory. (you put the little one in the coffin and that is what the large signal tracker is sensing).

I have two signal devices the same size and one should be put somewhere, so I can use the tracker device to track the signal. I don't know where to put one of the signal devices.

Richard, you should go back to the voodoo museum and place one of the devices inside the small coffin by the entrance. Then you can use the signal tracker when you get to the swamp. The other device you won't use until day 10. smile

That's all I need to know. Will do. The tracker isn't showing anything, maybe the coffin isn't moved yet. I put the signal device in the coffin.

Oh dear, Richard. That means that you have not been back to the cemetery! Dr. John doesn't know to take the coffin to the conclave unless you leave him a message. You have to write a message for him ....go to page 3 of this same thread here in this forum. I had to ask the same question there - how to write the message - all the answers will be there following my questions to the forum. If that doesn't help, you could check out a video.

Richard,
Did you put the "TRACKER" into the "Sekey Madoule" (small coffin) at the Voodoo Museum?

Richard,
Did you go to the Voodoo museum and have "the tussle" with the snake? Are you using the FLASHLIGHT inside the Gedde Tomb?. Are you sure that you are trying to open the drawer with the "VERVE PATTERN"?
Now that Mag has released the walkthrough of this game, I think things will become easier for you. I DID finish the game before the WT, but I did do a lot of "floundering around" until I got it right. Thank goodness for our Mag. She is indeed an angel.

Received notice that I should download an update to GK1 20th Anniversary edition. I have been playing the GK1 20th anniversary edition that I received originally and am now on day 7-does this mean I start all over? Looks like more patches are coming. What impact does that have on the version I am already playing? A whole new updated version is bound to impact what I already have-save games, etc. what do I do?

Grace, I'd wait until you needed the patch. As long as the game is running without problems keep playing. If you run into a glitch then you may need the patch. A patch should not effect your saves. Patches are made to fix problems. There is no guarantee a patch will not cause a problem. The way I look at it is, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Keep playing until you need it.

Generally if you leave and come back that works. Have you tried talking to him? Have you got anything else to do? Mag put up a new walk through check that perhaps you missed something.

Hi Grace,
Combine (in inventory) the new Voodoo Code with the one done by Magentia. Read the new message on the Leveau tomb, The watchman will then leave. I hope this helps.

Okay.....I have literally done EVERYTHING on the WT on Day 3, but cannot get the day to end. I know that Miss Geddes is supposed to show up at the Book Store after they talk at the Cemetery, but she doesn't. That is the only part that isn't done. I keep going back to her house and the Cemetery, but she isn't there anymore. I've exhausted all dialogue with everyone. help

Yes, I did that already, but then she just left and I thought that was supposed to trigger the end of the day when she shows up at the Bookstore, but I can't ever get that to happen. I must be missing something, but I have watched WT videos and gone thru your new WT step by step and I have done everything. Maybe I need to go back to a saved game earlier in Day 3 and see what happens.
Am I supposed to get to Granny's house on Day3? That's the one thing that has never come up and doesn't show on the map yet. But it looks like from the WT that that happens on Day 4, right?

Went back and replayed Day 3 from beginning, but still not getting the end of the day scene. Do the "points" in the top left corner of the screen have anything to do with it? I think it increases with each essential goal met. Is that correct? Mine reads at 115. There must be some little detail I am missing, but I can't figure out what it is. Getting tired of going in circles and tired of Day 3! lol

The score at top left shows only your progress in the game.
Check the Hints on the folder at bottom left of screen. See what it says.
After the cemetery, what happens when you go to the map?
I also sent you a saved game at start of Day 4. Use if you want.

I have done everything in the hints section. After the cemetery, nothing happens when I ggo to the map. When I go back to the the bookstore, it's still open and Grace has no new info for me.
Where did you send the saved game It's not in my messages or email.
That would be great to have, I'm tired of Day 3! insane

Okay....it just now showed up....Thank You MaG! You have come through for me so many times!
thanks urock

OOPS.....I can't find the Save games! I looked in the Pinkerton folder and there are "levels" but no saved games. I added your saved game to GK1 Data file, but it doesn't show up when I start the game.
Sorry to be such a pain!

What's weird is that the thumbnail that I see when I save it to my desktop is from another game... "Stanley Parable"
I am so confused!

I got it!! Sorry.....I saw your WT with the location of the Save games and it worked. oy, do they really hide them! dance

Am I the only one? I had a terrible time with the mime in the original game and so far I have tried for three days to get him to the policeman so I can hear the radio. I read the walkthrough but nothing helps. Anyone have a saved game?

Did you get him to follow you? Then slowly lead him to the cop.

I have to see if I took the saved games from another computer out of state to here.

The closest saved game is sent.
