It's a little early to ask for help but ..............help!

I've exhausted all the options I can think of in day one and can't progress. I'm missing something obvious I know but I can't figure it out. I used the built in hint system and have done everything that it says.

I made it to the crime scene.
Got the Snake Scale
drew the pattern in the book.
Got clay from the bank of the river.
Asked Grace to do Research.

Now every place I go I'm just repeating actions. I can't figure out what I've missed to get me to day 2.

So when players get to playing this game maybe someone can tell me what I've missed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Until another player comes along, the only other thing I can think of to suggest is to look at a walkthrough for the original game - maybe there would be something there to help you figure out what you might have missed?

Hi John and Marian,
I thought that I was missing something also, but this version of the game is different than the original version. Some things in "Day 1" don't occur until "Day 2". Day 1 in the new version ends with Gabriel asks Grace to "research" Malia Gedde. There is a very accurate video walkthrough that you can access by doing a search for "GK1 20TH ANNIVERARY EDITION WALKTHROUGH". This video WT is the only one that is available so far. HAPPY GAMING!

Very helpful information, Sandy - thank you! I was assuming that the "days" in the Anniversary version would be broken up the same way as in the original, so I appreciate your post.

You are very welcome, Marian.I have gotten through many a game because of the input of so many of our fellow Boomers. It feels good to be able to contribute something back. I especially want to thank Mag for being our "savior". She is awesome and I always say to myself: "What would I do without our Magnificent Mag?"
How many time have I wanted to fling my PC out the window, and Mag has come to the rescue. Of course, I must include YOU, Rushes, Jenny, Ana. Chief and others in this category as well. Sorry if I missed mentioning others in our community, but yow who you are. HAPPY GAMING!

I did a search as suggested and all I could find were trailers and reviews. If you could find that video walkthrough and post the url for it I would be greatly appreciative.

I found this one over a hour long. Just cut and paste.
Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition demo Walkthrough .
It is really long. I don't know how to use a URL. Might help.

Thank you kjos. I did things out of order and that's why I couldn't advance to day 2. I went back to a previous save and made sure that I asked Grace for the research last and I advanced to Day 2.

At first I followed the the old WT but it didn't seem right. Day 1 I went to the map and grandmothers house wasn't on the map. Maybe somebody will write a wt for the new game. That video was good. I got to day 2 and the game froze on me had to reboot. Will try again.

I have completed this game - and I don't think that WT is absolutely necessary. There is a built-in hint system there, not unlike the printed hint book for the original version.
Now, I only miss one score point (having 361 out of 362) - and the old walkthroughs are of no help here as the score was increased from 342 to 362...

Hi Richard,
I just started DAY 2. I don't know why your game is freezing so many times, but I would advise that you SAVE more often. That way you won't have to backtrack too far back. If you purchased the game from GOG, as I did, you might want to contact their SUPPORT team. They have always been very helpful to me when I had problems with one or more of their games.

Sandy,I got mine from steam and I just begun to save quite a few times. If I have two many saves I just delete them. I'm on day 3 and I'm kind of stuck. I was following a video WT for day 1 and 2. There isn't any for day 3.

I am unable to end Day 2. I saw the old lady speak with Willy early in the day at the drug store, but there is no option to ask Grace to research Madame Cazaunoux. According to the most recent video walkthrough, that ends day 2. Even though Grace mentioned the grandmother once, it seems to be too early to visit her, as there is no address or phone number for her. Do I have to go back to a much earlier save to ask Grace to research the old lady as soon as I've seen her in the drug store with her dog? When I click on research, there are no other things to research. So I'm a bit stuck. Any suggestions?

LadyCav,I watched the video again and did you talk to willy about the woman that was in the store among other things. I think you must of missed asking about her. If you asked about her than grace will research. I think this is the first Gabriel saw the woman so it wouldn't do any good to go back to another save. That's right at the end of day 2.

Richard, I must have missed asking Willy about her when she left the store with her dog. I've been to half a dozen locations since then but every time I come back to Willy, all I can ask about is buying the mask, which I do not yet have the money to buy. There is no option to ask Willy about her now. I've already been kicked out after talking to Ms. Geddes, been thru the cemetery and the artist is working on a project for me. I'm afraid I might have to go all the way back to the beginning of this day??

Hi, everyone!

I think my brain was working much better 21 years ago because I'm still on Day 1 and am stuck! In my inventory, I have the magnifying glass, hair gel, police photo, murder photo, gift certificate and sketch pad. Grace has nothing more to say and the only other locations I can visit are the church (where there is nothing to do) and the park. I've tried to get the mime to follow me so he can distract the cop but, just when I succeed, either the the man or the girl appear and he latches onto them. Grandma's house doesn't show up on my map, and I thought I visited her during Day 1 when I played all those years ago.

A nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Susan

Richard,
I just started DAY 3 (with the help of the video WT). I guess I just have to fumble my way through from here on. I hope your "freezing" problem has been solved. If not. did you try the STEAM SUPPORT team?

kjos, I never had any freezes. That's strange - maybe a problem with your hardware.

Susie07, you are on the right track! The mime is to distract the cop, but you must choose your way carefully, so that nobody would appear between you and the mime. A couple of tries and you would get him to the cop.

The three WT they have here I've been using hints. The first one. That one seems to work the best for me. I'm somewhere into day 3. I save quite often.
Just started day 4. Went to the map and saw Grandma Knight's House there so I had to go back to day 1 on the WT. It doesn't follow it very well.
Better than nothing.
Richard

Hi fellow Boomers,
I'm in Day 3. I have done everything I can think of, and I've been back to each place, and I've exhausted all talking points. I know that I have to get into "Madame Gazaunoux's house. I have the "Black shirt", the "priest's collar" and the "Hair Gel" Gabe is standing outside of the old lady's house and I'm trying to use all three of those items on Gabe, and I can't. I even went back to Gabe's bedroom in the bookstore, but still can't use those items on Gabe. What am I missing here?
I would appreciate some help on this. Thanks.
Sandy

Sanford, you have to combine the gel, shirt and collar in your inventory to make a priest disguise. Then use it to click on Gabriel. Make sure you go to the lecture before you visit the woman. Otherwise you can't ask her the right question and get the clay impression of her bracelet.

Thanks, Oldmariner,
I DID go to the lecture. How do I combine those items in the inventory? Haven't been able to figure that out. GOG did not provide a manual for this game.
Sandy

Somehow, I fiddled around with the inventory, cmbined the items, and had the conversation with the old lady. I have sold the painting for $100, but the guy in the Dixiland store wants $120 for the mask. How can I buy the mask if he won't accept the $100? I even went back to the bookstore and tried to get Gabe to take $20, but that didn't work. LOL I would appreciate your help on this. BTW, I'm in DAY 4 now.

Has anybody solved the Loa Machine puzzle at Madam Moonbeams on day 5?

This one has me pretty stumped.

sanford, there is no manual but there is some kind of tutorial (F1). There is a special button (the right one) to combine objects in the inventory.

oldman, the machine is very easy - just choose letters until one meaningful phrase (granting you permission) appears!
