I keep seeing references to windows 10 all over. Some games say they are compatible with windows 10 and there was a review of windows 10 which didn't really tell me much.

I also read that there might me a free upgrade for windows 8 and 8.1 users to windows 10.

Does anyone have any info on this and also why skip the number 9? Are they taking a page from Leisure Suit Larry? lol

You laugh because I'm different
I laugh because you're all the same

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

There is no Windows 10 yet only a Technology Preview which is free to download if you want to try it.

I've downloaded the Windows 10 Technical Preview, but haven't installed it yet. There is plenty of info out there on Windows 10. This is a pretty good article...

Well Ive got it on a virtual machine. I like the multiple desktop feature - not original but about time it came to Windows.

I installed it when it hit my MSDN account - so far I'm liking it, no complaints here.

Does it seem anything like Windows 7, InlandAZ, or more like Windows 8 ??

It's more of a combination of each. On a desktop machine, out of the box, the Start Screen with Modern UI/Metro Apps is absent. In its place you can choose to pin them to the Start Menu or remove them altogether. Kind of a Roll-Your-Own Start Menu. Start All Programs has been renamed to Start All Apps, which displays both Desktop and Modern UI applications in a scrollable list just like Windows 7.

They've also added the ability to run Metro Apps in a window on the desktop. The overall feel is more like a desktop again.

I hope you get mine installed in a VM this week now that things are starting to slow down here. That's what I've been reading - you can get the "feel" you want but still take advantage of all the stability and speed that Windows 8 offers.

"The overall feel is more like a desktop again."

That sounds like my cup of tea, thanks, InlandAZ.
[Not that I'll be venturing anywhere near anything past Win7 for a long, long time !! lol]

If there is anything Microsoft does well, it's supporting their operating systems. With it being supported until 2020, Windows 7 is what I've been putting on all the new computers with the exception of one individual who wanted Windows 8.1. I set up a local business owner's new system and was able to recreate his XP desktop to perfection on a Saturday. When he fired up his new computer on Monday morning, he told me he didn't miss a single beat with his business on Windows 7. That wouldn't have happened with Windows 8.1.

I have Win98SE, WinXP and Win7 on my computers - which my Son-in-law looks after for me.
And, due to him, all three machines are running very well. So I'm a happy bunny happydance

EDIT :

By that I meant to say I am very happy with what I've got and "who needs Win10 !!!!" snicker
