Some websites and pages use Java, but it's not really necessary. If you DO have it, you must keep it updated, so if hubby is getting an update message, he really should update. But, BEWARE of the screen which offers to put ask.com on his computer... DECLINE and be careful! However, if he doesn't want to see the updates any more, he can just uninstall it and then disable it in his startup programs if it's there.
