The gambling known as business looks with austere disfavor upon the business known as gambling.
Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary

You wanna bet?

The eight Saddam body doubles are gathered in one of the bunkers in downtown Baghdad. Tariq Aziz, the deputy prime minister, comes in and says, "I have some good news and some bad news." They ask for the good news first.

Aziz says, 'The good news is that Saddam is still alive, so you all still have jobs."
"And the bad news?" they ask.

Aziz replies, "He's lost an arm."

A man walks into an insurance office and asks for a job.

"Sorry, we don't need anyone..." they replied.
"You can't afford not to hire me. I can sell anyone anything anytime!"

"Well, we have two prospects that no one has been able to sell. If you can sell just one, then you have a job."

He was gone about two hours and returned and handed them two checks, one for $25,000 and another for $50,000.

"How in the world did you do that?" they asked.
"I told you I'm the worldes best salesman, I can sell anyone anything, anytime!"

"Did you get a urine sample?" they asked him.
"What's that?" he asked.
"Well, if you sell a policy over $20,000 the company requires a urine sample. Now take these two bottles and go back and get urine samples."

He was gone about 8 hours and the office was about to close, when in he walks in with two five gallon buckets, one in each hand. He sets the buckets down and reaches in his shirt pocket and produces two bottles of urine and sets them on the desk and says, "Here's Mr. Jone's and this one is Mrs. Johnson's."

"That's good," they said, "but what's in those two buckets?"

"Well, I passed by the school house and they were having a state teachers convention -
so I stopped and sold them a group policy!"

A woman, while touring a small South American country was shown a bullfight.

The guide told her, "This is our number one sport."

The horrified woman said, "Isn't that revolting?"

"No," the guide replied, "revolting is our number two sport."

The phone rang at the motor pool and an authoritative voice demanded to know how many vehicles were operational. Jim answered, ''We've got twelve trucks, ten utilities, three staff cars and that Bentley the fat-arsed colonel swanks around in.'' There was a stony silence for a second or two.
''Do you know who you are speaking to?''

''No,'' said Paddy.

''It is the so-called fat-arsed colonel you so insubordinately referred to.''

''Well, do you know who you are talking to?''

''No,'' roared the colonel.

''Well thank goodness for that,'' said Paddy as he hung up the phone.

It was October and the Indians on a remote reservation asked their new Chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Chief in a modern society he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. But being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is the coming winter going to be cold?"

"It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again. "Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?"

"Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."

The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. Two weeks later the Chief called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely," the man replied. "It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever."

"How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked.

The weatherman replied, "The Indians are collecting firewood like crazy."

A woman from New York was getting her affairs in order. She prepared her will and made her final arraignments.

As part of these arraignments she met with her rabbi to talk about what type of funeral service she wanted, etc.

She told her rabbi she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Bloomindales.

"Bloomindales!" the rabbi said. "Why Bloomindales?"

"That way, I know my daughters will visit me twice a week."

Woke up early to find 30's.....eeek, eeeeek, and more eeeek. Nose not leaving house today.

Joe, I hope you find your cold spot. I laugh cos I live in shorts and tees all winter, while wrapped in my big fuzzy robe and wearing my "hot" houseshoes.

Good morning everybody. wave

I've been lazy all morning, but fixing to get busy. I still have more to get moved. happydance

I slept pretty good last night, but woke up kinda warm, because I have the heat up so high.

I'm fine everywhere but my lower legs and feet. The older part of this house in on pier and beams with a crawl space underneath. It has new windows but some leaks around the doors, and of course in cabinets where the plumbing comes through the wall. yes

I've gotta get going. I don't think it's going to get much warmer. It's 32 & feels like 27. It's great if you're this guy. penguin

Have a great day everybody. rah

Hey Joe -just settle in, you will love it there. you are NW of your old home and when we drove to Tulsa from Lexington, TX we passed your old place. I guess we won't now.

How are your pets there and did you find SAMBO? the cat. If not who will care for him. Give Baby and Pepper a hug.

I am far-eeezzz-ng and how. Cold nose hands and feet for 3 days now and 4 to go. All the faucets are dripping and for some reason my cats are outside even the one who prefers Summer. And I have to go get groceries. Well maybe the store will be warm.

At this rate we will have an ice age next year.

Happy Friday all and be kind to your pets and the wildlife.

Hi gang,

How are you all doing? It's cold here but I'm sure not as cold as some place. I think it's gonna be a cold winter. We had snow last night. I brushed off about 2 inches off my car this morning before work. I'm really not ready for winter. Does anybody here in the diner have raynards syndrome? (spelling). After grocery shopping, by the time I reach the checkout counter, my hands are numb. Sometimes I forget the gloves. And it's only November. Ugh!

Midgie hearts penguin turkey

Well no fish fry tonight. They had to cancel because the lady who does the cooking lost her sister last night. She was only 38 years young. I know both of them. She was the manager of the place where I take and drop the drunks off before I head to the fish fry and where I hung out when there was no fish fry. So sad. sad

Ana doing fine. Thanks for asking. I agree about the too cold too soon. We have a week of single digits at night and highs around 20.

L4l lol

Yankee hope it warms up for you! Good to see you posting!

Space the weekend is upon us!!!

Gail was Nina happy about the snow? Sassy went out and started running all over in the snow the first day! lol

Joe hope you can take care of those leaks quickly and it warm up for you!

Evening Boomers penguin

Nan, Glad your okay after your fall. Nina hates the snow but she loves the walks. She's always cold. She constantly makes a mad dash for the heater vents when the boiler goes on.

Midgie, I think we're in for a cold winter also. Seems like it's much colder everywhere else so I can't complain. My cousin has Raynaud's. Keep gloves in your purse.

L4L and Yankee, stay warm. Evening Space.

Wishing everyone a good evening. smile
