All human beings should try to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why.
James Thurber (1894 - 1961)

Three students, a student from Tennessee, a student from Alabama, and a student from Auburn are out walking together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.

"I will give you each one wish, that's three wishes total," says the Genie.

The Tennessee student says, "I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Tennessee."

With a blink of the Genie's eye, "FOOM," the land in Tennessee was forever made fertile for farming.

The Auburn student was amazed, so he said, "I want a wall around the University of Auburn, so that nobody from out of state can come into our precious school."

Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye,"POOF," there was a huge wall around Auburn.

The Alabama student says, "I'm very curious. Please tell me more about this wall."

The Genie explains, "Well, it is about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick and completely surrounds the University of Auburn. Nothing can get in or out."

The Alabama student says, "Fill it with water."

A site foreman had ten very lazy men working for him, so one day he decided to trick them into doing some work for a change.

"I've got a really easy job today for the laziest one among you," he announced. "Will the laziest man please put his hand up."

Nine hands went up.

"Why didn't you put your hand up?" he asked the tenth man.

"Too much trouble," came the reply.

Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree.

After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground.

After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground. The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts.

Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.
"Dear," she chirped, "I think it's time to tell him he's adopted."

A man who absolutely hated his wife's cat decided to get rid of him one day by driving him 20 blocks from his home and leaving him at the park.

As he was nearing home, the cat was walking up the driveway.

The next day, he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away and try the same thing.

As he was driving back into his driveway, there was the cat! He kept taking the cat farther and farther away, but the darn cat would always beat him home.

At last, he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right and so on until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and he left the cat there.

Hours later, the man calls home to his wife: "Jen, is the cat there?". "Yes," the wife answers. "Why do you ask?"

Frustrated, the man answers: "Put that [blip] cat on the phone. I'm lost and I need directions!"

A carpet layer had just finished installing carpet for a lady. He stepped out for a smoke, only to realize he'd lost his cigarettes.
In the middle of the room, under the carpet, was a bump.

"No sense pulling up the entire floor for one pack of smokes," he said to himself. He proceeded to get out his hammer and flattened the hump.

As he was cleaning up, the lady came in. "Here," she said, handling him his pack of cigarettes. "I found them in the hallway."

"Now," she said, "if only I could find my parakeet. "

It was the kindergarten teachers birthday and the students decided that they would each buy their teacher a gift.
The first student, whose parents own a florist shop, gave her a present. She held it and said "I guess that it is flowers". "How did you guess?" asked the little boy. She laughed and thanked him.

The second student, whose parents own a candy store, gave her a present. She held it and said, "I guess that is some candy."

"How did you guess?" asked the little boy. She again laughed and thanked him also.

The third student, whose parents own a bottle shop, gave her a box which was leaking. The teacher touched the liquid with her finger and tasted it. "Mmmmm is it wine?" she asked.

"No," said the little girl.

So she tasted it again. "Is it champagne?" she asked.

"Noooo," replied the little girl, "It's a puppy."

Congratulations on getting to the last of your move, Joe! woot

luck to Peter and Bailey on their move, Ana! Hope you have a great day.

Have fun on your walk today, Haroula. thumbsup

Have a happy day as well, Gerry.

Have a great Saturday, too, Connie.

The weekend is here. happydance Thorsgoats and I are going to have a nice breakfast this morning before he goes to work early this afternoon. So I will spend the bulk of the day with kitty version Venus and Jupiter. grin I had to postpone my plans with my friend again this Friday, as I was asked to fill in for someone in another store, which equaled longer days. Hopefully, I did an okay job with that, as that store had a lot of different projects that were not a part of my store. crazy

Okay, off to see what else is happening. Have a great Saturday, everyone. fall

Supercalifragilisticexzpialidocious Saturday ya'll puppy

I started my morning off by surfing down the den stairs on my right leg. Thankfully, I didn't drop either my coffee or my water bottle. They did spill, but the doggies took care of that and sweet Soot wrapped my ankle which was trapped under my body. So, I'll be moving slowly today, which is not all that different from any other day. wave

Yikes L4L! Glad you aren't broken in many pieces after that 'surfing'. I wonder if we can get the Olympic committee to certify 'stair surfing' as an event? I know I'd qualify as a contestant. rotfl Then again, we might have to have different divisions for surfing solo, surfing with hot coffee in hand, and surfing with our fur babies tangled in the mix.

Another lovely day here. I've been out trying to find some flowers for my bud vase. Only found 2. I skipped the 'exotic grass' pretty blue flowers this time because my friend, who was here last night for TV watching kept smelling 'something'. It was funny, he sniffed and moved around the room, to the open door, even sniffed under his arms. So hilarious since I knew the smell was from those blue flowers which emit a skunk-like odor after dark. I finally told him what it was and removed them from the living room. Poor guy. evil Pretty flowers, bad smell at night. Same with the Orchid Cactus. They smell HORRIBLE after dark. Ugh.

No neighborhood news to report. Darn. Getting boring around here. I guess that's a good thing. Now that I've put that in print, today should be a 'busy' day. My neighbor says I 'cause' the events just by saying there are no events. rotfl

L4L, Be Careful -maybe too much Irish in that coffee?, that stuff's good in cold weather. Seems you and I suffer from the same weather anomaly - an arctic jet stream that was pushed through warmer climes. Oh well, this too shall pass. And hopefully soon.

This year my son and family will be having a perfectly tremendous vegan Thanksgiving and most likely some vegan promoting lectures in Tulsa. So that means I will cook for myself and kits this year as I declined the invite. They will be spending a whole week and with no one around here to care for my pets.........well that's a bit long time for them and I would worry. 2-3 days = OK, not 7. My daughter in Tulsa gives lectures on vegan-ism and it's health benefits. Especially for turkeys. Anyway yesterday I bought a turkey breast for the cats and I found an Amy's vegetarian mexican casserole and I splurged and got the family size for myself.

Still cold but getting used to it. In the north we expect it and accept it -here nichts. We moved to Austin from central New York and it took a full year to adjust to this heat but now I like the heat.

Happy Saturday and keep on gamein'

Yankee hope the cold snap goes away soon for you! Have a lovely day!

Funny you should ask, auntigram! An hour ago, my neighbor called to say that our friend, who used to live across the street (he's a landlord too) had just arrived at my nemesis's house and was holding some papers in his hand. Hummmmm. Put this together with the fact that the nemesis has had the Rescue Rooter men at his house no less than 6 times in 2 months and twice in the last two weeks, we figured maybe something was up.

It was. We guessed right. Seems that between the 'overwatering' of the grass (this guy soaks it twice a week for about 3-4 hours minimum) and the constant Plumber visits, the landlord (a VERY nice and tolerant guy) decided it was time for a friendly chat, AND a rent increase. The house across acts like a perfect amplifier for conversations. Weird, but sometimes times it's impossible not to eavesdrop. So I see the papers go into the tenant's hand and then the landlord saying something to which the tenant replies, "well with 3 girls...". Obviously talking about the constantly clogged drains. Then I hear the landlord say, "what I do with my sinks is...". Again, giving him some friendly advice.

I can envision the reason for the rent increase because of all those plumbing bills PLUS the excess water use. Funny that while the landlord lived there with his wife and 3 kids, I only saw a plumber twice, in 15 years! The new tenants move in and they have had one or more plumbers there maybe 15-20 times in 2 1/2 years. You would think they could figure out what's causing the clogs by now.

Our guess is the daughter's long hair and nobody being careful to not let it go down the drain. Either that or flushing items that shouldn't be flushed like MY tenants. Gotta knock on wood here, but after the second warning to them, the sewer pump has NOT clogged because of 'personal wipes/baby wipes'. Amazing what a little quiet yelling can accomplish.

Of course there's always the tenant I had who thought they had a garbage disposal and kept shoving all manner of food scraps down the sink! Took me 3 clean outs before they admitted that one. They thought the sewer pump was some sort of garbage grinder. Duh? Oh and did I mention pouring PAINT down the drain? And kitty litter down the toilet? This is the same gal who left a frozen PARROT in the fridge when she moved out. OH and the frozen lizard. Forgot all about that. Icky.

Anyway, hopefully the nice landlord/friend across will get some relief from the huge water bills and plumbing visits. I'd have acted long before this one, but he's a lot more tolerant than I.

Other than that, nothing else happening around the neighborhood.........yet.

Good evening boomies! I did not know we were heading to the city to help Peter move until I saw he ended up alone with Bailey to move all their stuff to a 3rd floor apt. That's where we spent the day, it was interesting. They had their stuff spread out in 3 locations and we had to go to each and then get it to the new place. It's a lovely apartment and they will be happy there.

I'm off to hit the shower....

Hope you all had a lovely day. hearts
