Hello. Long time me no bother you. I have been trying to play The Raven Legacy of a master thief. It takes ages to start then the characters have very slow jerky movements. The game also keeps stopping and the background music gets stuck! I tried to come out of the game but it didn't give me any options so had to use task master which said it my CPU usage 100%! I tried and tried to remove the game but it took so many atempts I was exhausted. The offending programme it said was my antivirus appliance. I took achance and disabled same. It was better but still no way to get see options save or even get out of the game. Can you please help I really want to play this game.

Minimum specs listed at GOG are
Quote:
Minimum system requirements -
Windows: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8
2.0 GHz processor or faster,
2 GB RAM,
DirectX 9.0c-compatible graphics card with 256 MB of VRAM and PixelShader 3.0 support,

Does your computer meet these specs?
The video card is especially important. If you are using onboard graphics without discrete video memory the game may not work.
If it just barely meets the specs, you may have to reduce the graphics quality.

The ***Steam site*** lists
Quote:
Minimum:

Processor:2.0 GHz CPU
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series or higher/ATI X1600 or higher (Pixel Shader 3.0)

Recommended specs are listed at ***Game Debate***

Thank you so much for your reply. I have tried the game on both my PC which is a XP and my laptop which is Windows 7. On what you say about graphics he seems to think this game will not play without better graphics. He also seemed to think although my laptop has all the above it did not have the graphics needed? He also thought that I could not buy a such for my laptop? If he is right does it really mean that I cannot play this game?

I'm afraid so, Lozza. You cannot upgrade graphics in a laptop.

Okay, thanks, what a disappointment and a swizz! Never mind now I have another beef! I have bought the game Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments. Poppped in the dvd and set it off to install. Now when I ask it to play I get blocked by a "thing" entitled STEAM!? Do I need to install STEAM to be able to play this game? If so I am not sure that is what I want as it mentions among lots of other guff, the naughty word "PAYMENT"! Please can someone explain what STEAM is and why I would need it to play Sherlock?

If you look at the case, it will say that it is a STEAM game. And, yes, you will need to install the STEAM client in order to play. However, if you're on the same computers, they may not meet the video card requirements for this game either. These are the minimum requirements...

OS: WINDOWS VISTA SP2/WINDOWS 7/WINDOWS 8
Processor: AMD/INTEL DUAL-CORE 2.4 GHZ
Memory: 2048 MB RAM
Graphics: 256 MB 100% DIRECTX 9 COMPATIBLE AMD RADEON HD 3850/NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600 GTS OR HIGHER
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 14 GB available space
Sound Card: DIRECTX 9 COMPATIBLE"

You shouldn't have to buy it all over again if you've already bought the disc version. Look for some sort of key in the box to type into Steam.

That's what you'll need to give Steam to activate the game.
From ***here***

In the Steam program, go to Games > Activate A Product On Steam in order to enter your key.

and if you have trouble with it, check ***here***.

I have downloaded the STEAM thing and all went well it was no time in downloading, but, because I am on the laptop it's all very jerky. I will try and download game to XP and hope it is better. Thanks for your help everyone I will keep you posted. Can I get a better graphic card for the XP or do I need another pc? ha ha.

Since XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and probably has an old motherboard, I'm afraid a new computer is probably your best bet.

See if there are any video options in the game you can lower - maybe it will play better.

If you want a better graphics card for an XP computer, you might actually consider getting a used card.
XP driver support is often better with older cards.
With new cards they focus on making drivers for currently supported operating systems.

What graphics card do you currently have in the XP computer?
And do you have enough system memory and discrete video memory for the game?

System requirements for The Raven are not terribly high for a modern game, but if your video card doesn't have discrete video memory the game may be too slow.

Getting a new PC would not be a bad idea.
Browsing the Internet with XP is risky for the average person.
You may want to keep your XP computer to play older games, but get a new one for newer games.
