I have given the maid in the sewing room the item she needs.I can see the hidden key but can't pick it up.Is there something else I need to do?

There is another item in that room you need to take; and the locked door in the sewing room can be unlocked with a key you find in a different room. It'll be in a fairly dark place, and somewhat hard to see.
