Five men retired to their properties near Lake Erie. Each, according to his needs, added a different kind of room to his house. Each added room can have a width of 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14 feet and their lengths (not necessarily respectively) can be 15, 16, 17, 18 or 19 feet. From the clues below, can you determine the kind of room each man added as well as the width and length of each room?

  • The room ANDY added, which is not the shortest, is shorter than at least one other room.
  • BILL's room is one foot longer than the WORKSHOP, which is not the widest room, but shorter than at least one other room.
  • The STUDY, which is shorter than at least two other rooms, is not as wide as CHUCK's room.
  • DAN's room, which is not the shortest, is wider than the UTILITY room.
  • EDWARD's room is longer than the length of the widest room, but shorter than at least one other room.
  • The DEN is 11 feet wide.
  • At least two rooms are shorter than the BEDROOM.

•BILL's room is one foot longer than the WORKSHOP, [which is
not the widest room, but shorter than at least one other room.]

Cue, does [....] apply to Bill's room or to the workshop?

Btw, you forgot to show poor Chuck in capitals lol

I didn't like the way that clue was written either and probably should have rewritten it but I just copied the clue verbatim from the book. The clue eludes to Bill's room, workshop, workshop.

I upped Chuck smile

Sorry Cue; got another question on that same clue:
"BILL's room is one foot longer than the WORKSHOP, which is
not the widest room, but shorter than at least one other room."

So far, you clarified that this means:
BILL's room is one foot longer than the WORKSHOP.
The WORKSHOP is not the widest room, and is shorter than at least one other room.

"BILL's room is one foot longer than the WORKSHOP" means that the
WORKSHOP is shorter than BILL's room, so "shorter than one room";
After, we're told again that the WORKSHOP "is shorter than at least
one other room".
Does that mean the WORKSHOP is shorter than Bill's room AND another
room, so should be "is shorter than at least two rooms"?

Again, sorry (I probably need a few coffees!) but I'm asking to make
sure...as I can't quite wrap this up...

Handy Andy: bedroom, 14 by 17
Wild Bill; den, 11 by 19
Chuckie baby: utility, 13 by 15
Danny boy: study, 12 by 16
Fast Eddy: workshop, 10 by 18

Turns out my last question wasn't important.
Cue, this has got to be the most Tylenolic logiker
I've ever seen...thanks for posting it!

I was stuck for a while; my own fault:
I missed the "by 1 foot" significance when
I was at Bill:16 or 19, workshop:15 or 18.
